I had an idea of how to do it, but it would involve making a rail that connected to the lower and let the barrel free float. The use one of those copper custom setups.

I decided not to bother.

I've never looked into it...does anyone make a quick change barrel system for ARs?

That's about the only thing I can think of that would really step up bump saws in the "close enough to a mg" list.

Maybe you were on the right path with the Dolos quick change.   I have no hands on with the Dolos quick change system (I've only watched MAC's reviews).   Is the hand guard essential for the quick change to take place?   If so, what if you either:

-somehow added a carry handle / barrel change handle to the existing Dolos hand guard
-fabricated new hand guards with the same thread to replace the existing Dolos hand guard

Obviously I am way out of my lane on this and my suggestions/questions probably exposed how much I don't know on this issue but I like your ingenuity.

Proned out, right hand charging is better. I'd have one of those uppers too, but I prefer running light weight BCGs for high rate of fire.

Is there a reason for the handguard being so huge, or is it just for the M249 aesthetic?

This is along the lines of what I was thinking.  A monolithic type upper/rail with cutouts to install/remove barrel, similar to the HK11/21/23 series.

Getting the gas tube to index would be the major problem with that setup.

Sorta. The first "BumpSAW" as a purpose-built rifle was the one below, but the one above was the first to try and mimic an M249. Another poster used SAW parts but in a dramatically different way than the ones you're seeing in this thread.

range day tomorrow. I don't have the 7.62x39 firing pin in yet (see this thread), and my sprinco orange isn't here yet either, so my only tuning options are spikes T2 or a carbine H (and gas block o/c)

go pro will be here Thurs to replace my camera that got stolen 2 weeks ago in UT while I was riding thru Zion.

So you will all get crappy cell phone propped up video of possibly single firing

j/k  shouldn't be that bad, I'll bring some wolf gold and some imi 193 if the tiger don't wanna cooperate

If all goes well tomorrow, range day Sunday with the ladies and I'll try to take all the video of them firing it, cuz I know you assholes don't want to see my ugly mug

Yes.

Oh come one, the m249s is what?  20 some odd pounds?   What's some more weight to lug around (and the clam diggers for the hole, the concrete, etc)?

I saw another video where a person just used a wooden peg attached to what looked like a paper towel holder to achieve the same result.   I suppose simple wooden dowel would work.

Doesn't look as cool as lugging around a 4X4 post with a wooden peg but if it is stupid and it works it is still stupid when it works.

Those triggers look neat, but I think they won't be able to replicate the bump fire stock for extended strings of fire. Finger muscles get tired and start to slow down after a while. I can bump my BumpSAW until the ammo is gone one handed and not get too tired.

Very true. [rant] That being said how pathetic is this that we can to come up with these workarounds when we should be able to but any belted at a gun store the same as any other firearm? [\rant]
