How are they competing? Number of targets killed? Vs each other in a duel?
|
|
Apache Long bow for the win.... in the hills of Germany with lots of woods and ridge lines to hide behind.
Open, flat land deserts.... what sort of optical advantages would the Cobra have? both guns are about equal range. Similar missiles of similar or identical range. |
|
Apache, since it can actually hit what the pilot is aiming at with the cannon.
|
|
Can a cobra carry air to air missiles? I know an Apache can.
|
|
Apache would win hands down.
Faster More maneuverable Stealthier Better Armament Army>Marines |

I would have to say, Apache. Even though I'm an old Cobra Attack Battalion/CAV guy and am partial to the Cobra.

Does the Apache carry AIM-9s? No, the Cobra does. The Apache carries the Stinger. AIM-9>Stinger |

I think the first one to spot the other will win. Does the radar on the Longbow detect and track air-to-air targets?

Who would win, CH-47 or CH-53? Are you riding in it? If so then the Sikorsky bird. |
|
As a tank killer the Apache is the winner.
Wanna kill people? I would take the Cobra. In a duel? I would say Apache. Better armor. Which is easier to keep flying in an environment where lack of regular maintenance is an issue? |
|
While the Supercobra and Apache are duking it out, Airwolf is at his pad having a 3-some with their wives....
|

Watch gun cam footage of the apache vs cobra...
Cobra sucks. Apache kicks mega ass. If the Marines didn't have to be "different" they would admit this and go with the Apache vs Cobra... and the Blackhawk vs Huey... just like they finally started using the M-4.

And the Cobra is smaller and more nimble, at least in the latest mod. (Both have the same T700 engines in the Zulu). Air to Air, the Cobra probably wins, but it's close. The Apache's advantages are mostly Air-to-ground. |

As an Army aviator I have flown the AH1G, AH1Q, and the AH1S Corbras and the AH64 and AH64 Long Bow Apaches. The AH64 Long Bow Apache wins hands down in all categories.

My dad designed the avionics pods for the Longbow. I walked the line every year during the take your kid to work day in the Mesa plant.
Apache. That is all. |

And (I'm told) the latest Cobra models are only superficially similar to the originals--rather like the F/A-18E&F Super Hornets compared to the original A/B/C/D models. So essentially it's a brand-new helicopter in a 50-year-old skin. Not really any cheaper, nor is buying all-new-build modern attack helicopters "making due (sic)." |

Care to elaborate on why it sucks? Cause thats spoken like someone who has NO fucking idea what they are saying. 2 very different missions. Cobra: Close Air support for Marines on the ground. Apache: kill shit tons of tanks |

My dad was a cobra pilot. The apache would win. My cousin was a Cobra pilot too... Cobra would win for one main reason... The apache never stays airborne for long...too many maintenance issues keep them on the ground. So the cobra could win even if we only armed it with a gatling .22lr |

I played BF2 and the Cobra can do hovering barrel rolls all day long and pwn bitches... even if Nick Cage was flying the Apache.

I was a radar tech on F-4s in the '80s, so I am still somewhat interested in that field. Does the Long Bow radar detect and track air-to-air targets. If OPSEC prevents you from answering, I understand. D(JustSomeOldJarhead)Peacher |

The ZuluCobra has upgraded rotors, targeting systems, and transmission from the Whiskey. The maintenance demand is very high for the Apache vs the Cobra. The ZuluCobra can do most things an Apache can (munitions limited) for probably less than half the cost. |

I think the first one to spot the other will win. Does the radar on the Longbow detect and track air-to-air targets? This. Proven time and again in helicopter air-to-air combat in the Iran-Iraq war, and several other small spots. Generally speaking, the one to get the first shot off will win because even a relatively slow TOW missle will smoke any helo. Once it's on though, it's not exactly like a ME-109 vs P51 deal either. You're close to the ground, and it becomes much more like a tank vs tank fight. Just in really fast tanks that can go over obstacles, but can't take a hit. You use your other members of the combined arms team you're fighting with. ADA, Field Artillery, Tank gun fires, IFV fires, whatever, in additon to the systems you have. Heck, even the enemy in the current fight has used IEDs against our aircraft (unsuccessfully so far). So it's not like fighter vs fighter. I can't answer the question about the radar. I don't know. |

Yo, I herd that if u take the Apache and divide by zero, you get a Comanche
|

I'm a retired Army O-4 and Kiowa Warrior Driver. The Super Cobra does have some minor maneuverability advantages over the AH64D, but the Apache wins hands down in firepower. Keep in mind the image you showed was not the Longbow which features the radar guided AGM 114 Hellfire.

I'm assuming they've had lots of improvements since then, but it sure makes it easy to poke fun. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
