I'll never understand people desiring these flat faced dogs. Intentionally breeding a health issue for some perceived aesthetic benefit

Aren’t these dogs extremely prone to multiple serious health issues?

My daughter has two of these Anatolian Shepherd Dogs. One day I was visiting and a gate was left open and one of them attacked my Aussie. One bite. The Vet said that she had never treated a bite so large as this. $700.00 bill.
These two dogs never get inside for cover. The dogs stay with the sheep 24 hrs. In the winter on cold nights, there will be frost on their backs. The dogs can be heard in the night barking , at what I don't know. Never have lost a sheep to wild animals. Also has a Marima form Italy. Another killer. Lives with the cows and goats who pasture together. The Anatolian Shepard loves to kill chickens. |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Yes Sorry to hear that. To me, that means a shit ton Of dogs out there that have issues that probably aren’t being addressed because people got dogs they can’t afford. You’re not wrong. This current popularity wave is fueled by fad colors (blue, merle, tricolor, etc.) that come with their own inherent health issues, not to mention the ones that are inherent to the breed. It’s not a good thing, really, and popularity breeds problems all it’s own. |

View Quote I have a soft spot for Anatolians, but you have to understand the breed. My grandmother had one dumped at her house by her daughter. Chihuahua in tow that was his partner in crime. Chihuahua alerted and Anatolian would bring the muscle as needed. The problem was no one had ever really "made" him do anything. Dog has ear problems and need to go to the vet. I get called and get to drive 1,000 miles to go deal with it. Put him on the leash and do some basic obedience work. He was a little surprised that I could make him do what I wanted. After that we snuggled on the couch. Best friends. After a few days off to vet we go. He was perfectly behaved but was pissed about his ears being touched. The next few days was be holding him and cleaning his ears. At the end of the 2nd day he would stay perfectly still, even though he hated it. 3rd day he let my grandmother do it. If anyone else grabbed the bottle he would grown. A serious "I will eff you up" growl. But my grandmother was GTG. Annually I drove halfway across the country for his vet visit. My grandmother died in the middle of the early COVID fiasco and someone else grabbed him before I could figure out transport. Still bummed about it. |

Quoted: Ou 43 lb monster Frenchie is absolutely the sweetest dog I've ever met/owned. Built like a brick shit house. I don't care for the breed's fragility but he is a freak of nature and my best buddy. One thing I've noticed over the past few years is ghetto people viewing then as status symbols, like Nikes and cars. A lot of thefts of them and the dogs are usually found dead because the hoodrats don't know or do shit. There's a lot of status for them to be seen with because they're expensive. I've gotten on edge a few times when thugs walked up asking how much we paid. It's silly to have to think about being robbed for your dog but it's actually a concern. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/292592/FB_IMG_1678925828320_jpg-2747300.JPG View Quote Do you carry all the time? AKC site is “under maintenance” so I can’t see the list. Where do these rank?
Chihuahua/Rat terrier (rescue) Beagle/Walking Tree Coonhound (rescue) Great Pyrenees/Poodle “Pyredoodle” 2x Great Pyrenees Also have a #196 American Foxhound. |

Ugly cute but terrible genetics and horribly expensive to keep running. Great breed if you are a vet, they will keep you in caviar and Corvettes.

Popular sire syndrome, and breeding for a look is the dumbest shit ever. Form follows function. Hybrid vigor for the win. Landrace all the things. Pick a breed that hasn't been ruined by popularity. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are a I still miss ours and she'll have been gone 10 years this May. Current dog is a mix with some of that in her and has all of the best qualities of a RR.....unless you are cat. Then she has that one quality you REALLY don't like being a cat. lol Our Rhodesian would chase cats, bunnies, etc. but only for about 50-75 feet. Then she decided that was enough. |
