Thank you!

T-shirt update!!!!

We are at 40 shirts sold, and $750.00 raised so far.

The tender seems to be a go.  We are working now on a way to secure it.  We think we have it worked out.

guns, I know it's your money and your time, and your students, but - this is how the liberals win.  They continuously push Conservatives out of the public square, and Conservatives say screw it, we'll do our own thing, and then you have Piss Christ in the Wyoming Student Art Show.

Update 4/17

Another view of the locomotive all packed.

I'm negotiating with my wife for a set of sheets to cover our buckets to hold up the locomotive and tender.

Tied down.   We ran out of ratchet straps, but tomorrow we will put one through the hooks to the ceiling of the trailer to help stabilize it.

For $20, we are going to need lots of space.   We will have these progress photos displayed in a fold out that will sit on a couple easels next to the locomotive and tender.

The "oh shit it broke" kit will be a bit more extensive this year.

This is about half of what we ended up with.

You may well be correct. I very much appreciate your advice and thoughts.

This is still the end for us.  Just the way its going to be.

Guns, that ratchet strap needs to be secured better to the load than just that choke.  I an VERY concerned that will slide off in transit.

Consider framing around your buckets too so they can't slide and drop the tender.

Let me get the straps on that will pull to the ceiling.   The tender is much lighter than you would expect.  My students worked to see if it could move at all and it is very solid.   The buckets have holes in them that the axle bolts go into, so they can't slip out.

good news!

To address his concern of the straps coming off the ends, you could wrap a strap around all four corners of the bottom of the tender, which would keep both straps pushed towards the center.

4/18

The night before the great journey to Symposium.  All packed, and the suburban and trailer are out in front of my house.

We leave about 7:15 in the morning.

Here are the extra tie downs on the tender.   It's not going anywhere.   I'm not so sure we won't be putting details back on after the ride, but the chassis is rock solid.

Having the stuff all packed students began to get serious about the teepee.

Where it will go.

A little caribou cape to simulate buffalo.   We have buffalo, but its too long of hair for 1/3rs scale.  This is closer to right length hair.

The fold out for the display at symposium.

More trees fading back.

We are at 46 shirts sold, and $860.00 raised so far.

I left the custom ink page open on my desk top and the look on many a student who plopped down in my seat was.....

They were shocked at arfcoms generosity.

Godspeed.  Break a leg.

ETA:  Scale hair.  You think of everything.

Of course, if buffalo hair is too long, you could have a couple of freshmen give it a haircut - with scissors...

We made it!  Pictures are going to take a bit as my connection seems unusually slow right now.

Unbelievably,  we didn't break a single thing on the train.

People are in awe.

Several teachers already came up and congratulated us on the project.

The program is running and the whistle works great.  We tooted our own horn a few times.

We are at 48 shirts sold and 889.00 raised!

Someone asked me how we paid for all this, and I got to explain where our support came from.

Our sheets are a little messed up.  We will need to adjust them when we get a chance.  The location is not ideal, and very close to the unicorns, but it's all we could get done.  It has access to power and that was the end game.

I didn't realize how blurry that was.

I'll get a better one tomorrow.

They were tired, hungry, and ready to go to the hotel.  It was very stressful for about 1.5hrs.

Awesome displays of the train and Unicorn. You and your students have done great work. I love the pics of you students wheeling in the Unicorn. The "front row" where mostly all smiles looking at it as to say that is awesome. The back row however was all frowns to suggest "we have no chance this year"

It is like they adjusted row by row on the greatness of the art project.

Ribbon count for this year is 60 out of 97 entries. Breaking even is 25%.   We done good.  I think that's the highest total we've had in the last 21yrs.

We did not win any congressional awards(top 25 have to be a certain size bracket)  that are picked out by a jury.  We also did not win any First Lady awards this year.  That was a little surprising.    We usually win one or two of those.

Tonight we find out about the student choice awards.

The pieces she has to pick have to be a certain size or smaller.

The locomotive wouldn't be eligible.    I'll bet she spent some time looking at it.  They had a 50th anniversary party upstairs that they whisked her to so she didn't get to walk around as much as I've seen her do in past years.
