I thought foliage green was just OD and FDE mixed together?

There is nothing dark about flat dark earth. It's just desert sand, and since I don't live in the desert I don't have anything in FDE. I have mostly black with some OD.

I once bought a "stealth gray" grip because they were out of black at the time. I ended up putting all stealth gray furniture on that rifle.

FDE is good for desert areas and if I lived in one, I would use that color. However, I am quite tired of the whole War on Terror colors that all manufacturers are wanting to make their guns in. The G19X and the original Marine CQB 1911 are examples. I get that the military could use that color but I wish they would offer the same gun in "normal" colors such as black, gray, and OD. Colt finally started making the Marine 1911 in black and I like it much better.

I have only one gun in that color, mainly because I was doing an EOD Mk18 clone. I do like the color but I like others too.

I hate the color as well. OD base, grey and brown stripes or blotches for my area.

Brown is beautiful. And FFS it's not for the desert or sand. FDE is dark in a real desert. It's the same color as mud, tall dry grass, etc. It works on the forest ground even in Washington.

I’ve stuck with black because every accessory can be had in black and I like to change things up sometimes.

I’ve thought about going gray, but not everything I want is in that color and I’d prefer everything to match. First world problem I know.

I hated FDE

Then I met this little feller

Tomorrow I take possession of my FNX45T in FDE.

Next week I'll head to Davidson's (never knew they were LV based) and start the paperwork for a Osprey45 in FDE

I have the FDEaids I'm afraid

I like the mil "dark earth" color, or olive drab. FDE/tan is ok for some things but I'm not a fan of entire firearms in that color. If I lived in Arizona I'd probably like FDE more.

If you know soybeans, think tawny, not gray.

In theory black is a poorer camouflage color than browns because it doesn't occur as often in nature, so brown military gear does make sense. You can find lots of lengthy, mind numbing treatises about this on the internet, written by people who apparently have absolutely nothing better to worry about.

In reality, worrying about what color your rifle is is pedantic and silly and just a result of accessorizing to current military fashion trends, just like blue wool uniforms with gold piping in the 1800s.

Similar to the adage "amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics."

Wars aren't won because the Army let people paint their rifles brown. You don't kill more deer with a brown rifle than a black one if you are good at hunting. Worrying about the color of a pistol is even more absurd. And the internet denizens who "study the most effective operational colors for equipment" are laughable.

But at the end of the day I like guns and if the color of your gun makes you happy then awesome.

I have an AR spray painted black hawk down style because it's cool.

I'm not here to convince anyone. ARFcom seems to be more about 'looking cooler' than it is about functionality - more than ever now.

It's ridiculous. I just a build, a part, or a color on its ability to benefit the owner in a fighting situation. FDE seems to help in certain areas. In another state I have lived in, it wouldn't be bad per se, but olive drab would have been better.
