Adults buying toys isn't exactly a new thing... some lines are specifically marketed toward adults - Mcfarlane toys for example. Yes I have a couple shelves of cool-ass toys, why? |

You do realize civilization is built upon people who have money buying toys.

look, when i can buy a bunch of arcades and pinball tables and claim it's for the kids, i'm gonna buy a bunch of arcades and pinball tables and claim they're for the kids...
i buy a lot of stuff i like for the kids though because i like to spend time with them. the little one likes gauntlet right now so she'll voluntarily sit with me and play a game just about whenever i want the older one doesn't like arcade games at all so i just bought her a couple of snap circuits electrical project thingies. she had liked one a friend of hers had so i went on ebay and bought her the huge set they use in schools to teach with. i don't know shit about electricity so maybe we'll both learn something |

Would also be down for an evel knievel stunt cycle. Todays toys? Meh. |

View Quote I think that's the point though, adults are going out there and buying stuff that may be fond to them. So the kids playing with whatever the heck is popular today might in a few decades really want to buy a reproduction of that toy much like you want that carrier. |

I have a growing collection of tabletop wargames that spans from scfi to the Roman era.
In fact, I am playing a game tonight called Falling Sky that is set in 53BC with Caeser/Rome and the Gallic tribes(I think I am playing the Belgae tribe). Everyone has different hobbies. |

Lego Ideas are marketed towards grown ups. I love building the details. I will take them off the display shelf and play with my kids with them, but they don't get to demolish them.
I spent 3 hours building the AT-AT play set with my son, who promptly demolished it the next day while I was at work. I could happily spend a weekend just building Lego. Zero stress and the kids can have fun with it after I have displayed it for an appropriate period of time. |

I'm nearing the end of my 62nd year, and If I ever outgrow the desire to buy/play with fun stuff then I think it'll be time to pack it in. Whether it be the subcompact tractor and various attachments I talked myself into buying for the 2.5 acre property we moved to a couple years ago (when a riding lawn mower would have worked), my safe full of guns...or this ridiculously fun (and expensive) little gizmo the wife gave me for this past Christmas...they're all toys of one sort of another.

Quoted: Lego made massive profits by realizing adults who wanted to buy the sets they didn't get as a kid were a prime market. This same phenomenon is why classic cars are so popular, and why the genre of "hot" cars tends to shift as demographics move along the timeline. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: The picture shows Legos, which I would give a pass to. It's more akin to model building than playing with toys. Those new car sets they have are pretty awesome. If you think a lot of their sets aren't marketed towards adults, you would be mistaken. How many kids can afford a $300-$800 set? They are gonna buy one. Lego made massive profits by realizing adults who wanted to buy the sets they didn't get as a kid were a prime market. This same phenomenon is why classic cars are so popular, and why the genre of "hot" cars tends to shift as demographics move along the timeline. |
