Airplane was just a ripoff of one of the worst films in the 70’s
Airport 1975 Sick little girl, nuns, bad puns. It had it all. Although seeing a 747 fly through the Wasatch mountain range was cool. For as bad of a movie, it’s great fun if you’ve seen Airplane. Airport 1975 Official Trailer #1 - Charlton Heston Movie (1974) HD |

Release date: November 13, 1957 (USA) "Ted Stryker (Dana Andrews) has drifted through life unsuccessfully since he led a dreadful air attack in World War II. When his wife, Ellen (Linda Darnell), and his son leave him, Ted hurries onto their plane, where he tries to convince Ellen that he has changed. Meanwhile, many of the people on the flight, including the pilot (Elroy Hirsch), fall ill with food poisoning. It's left up to Ted, with help from Captain Treleaven (Sterling Hayden) in air control, to safely land the plane." They even used the propeller sounds from 'Zero Hour' every time the jet was shown. |

I didn't grow up in the 70s, so I had no idea of the Yuban commercial. Thanks arfcom for enlightening me.
I love the movie, I just thought it was funny 'cause the wife seemed all offended at the guy not ever getting a second cup at home. |

View Quote I did, have seen Airplane about a million times and never realized that part was a parody of a coffee commercial. Today I also learned, thanks to this thread that the arguing PA announcers were the ones for LAX and were a married couple. I love easter eggs and nuanced stuff like this. |
