Two Walmart locations, in north Portland and southeast Portland, in will close in March, Walmart announced on Wednesday.
All Portland Walmart stores to permanently close The locations, at Hayden Meadows and East Port Plaza, will both close Friday, March 24. According to a Walmart spokesperson, pharmacy staff will work with customers to transfer their prescriptions to other locations before that date. "We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately some do not meet our financial expectations," the announcement said. "While our underlying business is strong, these specific stores haven't performed as well as we hoped." All employees at the two locations will have the option to transfer to other, nearby locations. "We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Hayden Meadows and Eastport Plaza locations." |

Untenable shoplifting/theft issues?
Perhaps this 2022 lawsuit judgement against a Portland area Walmart is related? 4.4 million dollar payout https://theportlandmedium.com/local-news/walmart-ordered-to-pay-black-man-millions-for-theft-allegations/ |

It probably doesn't help the Walmart on the South side that is directly next door to the only Costco in South Portland, guessing most people pick Costco for most things.

Are these actually central Portland or way far out from downtown?
Reason I ask is that I've been up and down the West Coast traveling and have never seen a Walmart in the major cities. They're always on the outskirts and never in the downtown areas. Same deal with shops like Bass Pro and Cabelas. Always way out in the sticks. |

Not seeing much online about this so…
But, if true. Label lot shopping carts with distance markers Hire roof Koreans Profit |

We've had two local Walmart's in the area close in the past decade.
Both were due to extremely high amounts of theft in bad neighborhoods. |

Maybe the communist city council can find a way to redistribute food?
Lol Who am I kidding, communism and no food go together like communism and failure. |

I'm so tired of going into a Walmart...
Yeah, shut it all down, burn it all down....turn it into home-delivery service instead. |

We had a Walmart neighborhood store near my daughter's ghetto high school. Closed down due to ghetto people doing ghetto things.
These things happen. |

In pointing out how liberals have nearly everything backwards in terms of how they think, the late Col. Jeff Cooper once said:
"Poverty does not cause crime. Crime causes poverty." Nothing proves his point more than what we see with businesses closing up shop and abandoning areas where "rich cultural vibrancy" and total disrespect for law (in this case, laws against shoplifting) have run amok. They reap what they sow, in those neighborhoods, and as another reply noted: "Fuck 'em." |

They are on the edge of Portland, but the suburbs blend right into that and are just a continuation of the city. They aren’t really near the urban center, either. |

View Quote Don't know about that. Here 2 Walmarts are very close to 2 Costcos. 1 is across the street from Winco, a warehouse no frills food chain. The people I know that have limited funds can't shop at Costco. They need smaller quantities of many items rather than large quantities of a few. Walmart is doing the online sale more now. They can match or beat Amazon on some items, especially if ship to store is used. Walmart is closing the stores because of theft, simple as that. Makes me wonder how bad it's got to get before people are voted out or something real bad happens. |

Shoplifting and the persistent smell of patchouli oil and body odor.....It was bound to happen.

If I ran a business I'd have a policy that if I have to put the Alize, and Hennessy in a cage, I'm closing that location for good.

I wish the Walmarts here would close, then maybe most of the poors would move, and the others would be too poorer to venture out.

My dad live on Hayden island until last year. The Walmart he went to was in delta Park(I think). Complete freak show. I used to work at fisherman's marine and supply in high school the place has gone seriously down hill it's hard to comprehend.

That WM is a shit hole and the area around it is full on homeless encampment. |

Portland area Fred Meyer stores shrinkage predicted to skyrocket in T-minus 10, 9, 8……

They always harp on the people “relying” on these stores yet you don’t see many people flocking there to work to keep them going or helping stop the rampant theft at these locations. It’s all revisionist history as usual.
