Mom always said her family was Scotch-Irish and Black Irish (even though she was blond w/ blue eyes).
Other half is Italian. Made for some epic family drama. |

Andrew
James Knox James Andrew Ulysses S. Grant Chester A. Grover Benjamin William Theodore Woodrow Wilson Richard Nixon were all Scots-Irish. I am Scots-Irish-English as far back as I can tell. IIRC more Americans trace their roots to Germany. |

Some of my family has been doing all sorts of genealogy the last 10 years or so. We always knew we were Scots/Irish but they have documented it all. They are pretty over the top sometimes bushwhacking through some overgrown cemetery to find the grave of someone we are kin to. We are proud to be who we are. This is an interesting book. Like most people of western North Carolina who had family here before the Recent Unpleasantness, I am Scots-Irish. I would heartily recommend reading and the watching Senator Jim Webb's "Born Fighting." One day someone asked why America doesn't have a Scots-Irish month or holiday. I replied that we did. It's called the Forth of July. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile View Quote This, great book. Don't fuck with us, we're nasty even when we're sober. But, we're cute drunks . |

Quoted: Lowland Scots, with the blessing of the British government, colonized what is now referred to as Northern Ireland way back when. A lot of these people settled in the Appalachian Mountains in the early 18th century. In other words, you would call the Scots-Irish simply residents of Northern Ireland. We in America call them hillbillies, red necks and occasionally moonshiners. Some attempts are made to communicate with American Scots-Irish, but it is difficult since they don't speak real English and don't know how to write. My ancestors came to South Carolina aboard The Lord Dunluce on 20 December 1772, from Larne Ireland. The were Scots Covenanters. A major battle of Rev 1 was fought on their property, and is named after my family. My ancestor fought the collectivists then, and was wounded at Cowpens. We've been kicking tyrant ass ever since and we don't mean to quit.

3 out of 4 of my grandparents were scots. The other was Welsh.
Last name was Johnstone, but we had a horse thief in the family so it got changed to Johnson, so the story goes. |

Dad's side was Scots-Irish, coming in via Philadelphia in the early 1700s. There was an injection of pure Scot into the bloodline in the late 1800s when Grandad met and shortly thereafter married Grandma as she came ashore in Wilmington, NC, right off the boat from Scotland.

3/4 Scotch Irish, 1/4 Native American, approx. There's a tiny bit of French in there too but I'm not really sure how much.

My mother's side is Scots-Irish, but they came into the U.S. (Michigan) via Canada (Ontario) in the early 1930s. Family legend has it they were kicked out of Scotland for supporting Mary, Queen of Scots (she was executed in 1587). However, it's also possible it was after the '15 or the '45. They were Protestant. In any case, they ended up in Ireland, eventually making their way to Canada. They were in Canada before the time of the American Revolution, as they were Loyalists. There is documentary evidence of this.
The Scots-Irish got mixed up with some French-Canadian. On the other side, I'm German (last name), French-Canadian, and some English. Oddly enough, in me, the French-Canadian predominates. I'm told I look 100% French-Canadian. |

Yep.
