Actually... I have a good suggestion...

This:
While the camera may be good for a phone, the unnecessarily high megapixel count only does 2 things.  Look good for marketing while screwing the customer because it'll eat up more storage space faster.    They need to do better.  This is a disappointment.

Bring back the first gen iphone physical button layout and ios3. It is the best. I have mine on a shelf and look at it from time to time it is 100000000x easier to use.

Doesn't really help what I'm after...
If I want to shoot in DNG for maximum editability I'm stuck in their large file format size.  Problem is the super large file format size doesn't offer any clarity benefits of the resolution they're claiming they can produce.  So it's essentially needlessly large for marketing hype.

Give that video a watch, It'll likely explain it better than I can type out.

Quick quote from a post about it:
JPEG XL is a modern image format designed to improve upon existing formats like JPEG while offering features such as lossless compression, HDR support, and better performance. DNG (Digital Negative), on the other hand, is primarily a raw image format created by Adobe for digital photography, aiming to provide a standardized way to store raw image data.

While JPEG XL has several advantages, such as better compression and versatility, it is unlikely to make DNG completely obsolete for several reasons:

Different Use Cases: DNG is designed for raw image data, preserving all the information captured by the camera sensor. JPEG XL, while it can handle lossless compression, is not a raw format and may not retain all the same data as DNG.
Editing Flexibility: Photographers often prefer raw formats like DNG for their editing capabilities. Raw files allow for greater adjustments in exposure, white balance, and other settings without degrading image quality. JPEG XL, even in lossless form, does not provide the same level of flexibility.

It is a phone and fashion accessory, but as an UX enthusiast, having duplicate home screens is dumb. Swiping in diagonals to get places is dumb. Swiping 14 dimensions like Eric Weinstein describing spinnors - dumb. Oh, want to turn the volume up -how about we just screen shot your screen instead. First gen iphone was best iphone for UX, end of story.

I don’t use an iPhone for the camera, but the large image dimensions do serve a purpose - the phone does a ton of processing on images, and more pixels means more data to work with. Yes, those extra pixels don’t make the image look better on their own, but the image processing algorithms use them to produce a much better result.

Saying the first iPhone is superior to what we have now is like someone liking a manual typewriter better than than an electric one. And yes, I’ve used both kinds of typewriters!

Grandpa indeed.

Are you talking about the original iPhone?  I’m familiar with all back to the 3g and I have to say, each OS has been an improvement

There were so many limitations with that iteration of the UI it would take me all day to list and I'd still miss some.

it was good for the time. When there were limitations on storage that forced limits on the number of apps that could be installed. Limitations on displays that locked in a max number of pixels.
Limitations on touch screens that restricted to a max number of addressable pixels as touch targets.

That entire generation of iphoneOS had a single goal of making OS X as small us physically possible and adapting a touch UI onto it to gain as much knowledge as possible from user input to build something more usable.

The removal of the home button is a separate discussion but doesn't really have anything to with the UI.

@right_rudder

WHY did they remove the home button? I’m just fine without it.

There were a couple of reasons.
The real estate was needed for the display.
It was a point of failure, some users were confused by it.

there's more but that's the biggest reasons.

I still have my old iPod Touch that I fire up here or there for funsies… I don’t know which version it topped out at (IIRC I got it before I got my iPhone 4 whenever that was), but I can say the interface has gotten much better with each iteration.

That’s why we iterate, to improve with each version. Same goes for anything - Google included.

Ditto on the typewriters!

Makes sense. Back when my phones had the home button, I also programmed my left thumb print so I could use Apple Pay when getting my morning coffee from McD.
