So gun guys and people with real world experience will continue to be banned for being rough around the edges while leftists and general internet weirdos that can follow the letter of the law while inciting responses will continue to be coddled? View Quote |

I don't think you're going to get your preference. A formalized process and having mods take action against shit-stirrers would be an improvement over the current, somewhat ad-hoc moderation. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

AR15.com has gone Corporate, let the offended rule the world...
|
|
Will new policies be modeled after those from FB and Twitter? Asking for a friend.

Anyone who thinks that this happened after goatboys meeting with our new corporate overlords and this has nothing to do with new ownership has their head in the sand. Once anything corporate happens and their legal teams and insurance starts digging changes will come. The fact that the first sentence in the announcement states that this has nothing to do with Brownells is just projecting.

Sounds like they are looking for Consistency. I am a fan of Consistency.

What a bunch of fucking BS. Just what this place needs. Less freedom. wtf
Come to our website about the right to bear arms. But don’t go talking too wildly. Commie bullshit. |

Just read through it... and I guess it sounds good in theory, but we'll see how it plays out in practice. I don't see any issues, personally. View Quote (for clarity- I'm not suggesting that there is mystery, but merely that everyone who gets a warning plays the same "I never knew it was illegal to run a stop sign while smoking crack and listening to Whitney Houston. Why do you hate Whitney Houston?" BS. Adding explanation to the COC should help reduce some whining.) Quoted:

That’s how I feel. It’s gotten bad. That’s not true especially not in forum land. There have been plenty of great talkers and content providers run off by people who should have been slapped down. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

good. We need it. This place has turned into a mess lately. Quoted: Oversight of speech always ends poorly for those who actually speak. If you say much you should be fine. |

For long-term or permanent bans I'd love to see a trial by jury or panel approach. 4 mods, 1 or 2 site staff, and 3-5 randomly appointed paying members with at least 5 years on the board. Set forth the charges and prior disciplinary history and have a consensus decision made with input from regular members. Sort of the way attorney discipline boards work in the penalty phase. But this will probably never happen.... View Quote |

I have mixed feelings...
On one hand I hate any censorship, closing of threads and such. Especially, when they don't say exactly why they were closed. On the other hand, Its not that serious. In all my years on all the forums I'm on, I've never been banned, don't think one of my threads have been shut, never even had to put someone on mt Ignore list. So I don't have a problem with them trying to clean it up a bit. The worst I have had/done was I got a warning once, because I hard ordred a few AR15.com hats and I hated how tall they sat on my head. So in conversation about that I linked to a hat on another gun forum that I like the shape and fit of it much better. I was warned for mentioning TOS as they called it. I don't really get into forum pissing matches and not much offends me. If I see a Thread title I don't like, bores me or I'm not interested, I keep scrolling. If I see a repost I don't flip out, I keep scrolling. The only things I thing a thread should be shut for is posting Child Porn, something illegal to post or that could get the site in trouble. Other than that, let it go. If you think its ran its course, exit the thread and keep scrolling. |

Heh. I remember when I called out a mod for violating a rule. Then, it was suddenly found that I was violating a minor rule and I got a 3 day ban. I dunno if I want good moderators on Arfcom, because then it wouldn't be arfcom. View Quote The tax assessor was over within a week, and they got their taxes increased. |

Eventually, being outwardly outspoken and hostile toward leftists and liberalism will be seen as a call out and violation of the COC. |

less government is best
this place is downright tame, there can't be all that much to mod |

#1 is total bullshit
Brownells squires the site and now there’s changes? That’s ok, plenty of other forums to visit |

For every post I edit I get $1.00 on a Brownells gift card.
For every warning I give I get $3.00 on a Brownells gift card. For every person I help ban I get $5.00 on a Brownells gift card. I have already made $24.00 today. |

Anyone involved in a buyout know how terrible of a lie this was. They are using the exact play book I called before. Have the leadership trot out nothing will change while having them slowly change things. Even having different members post each statement.
This change is a coincidence! The founding fathers will be banned while the British are elevated in power. Gotta follow the rules silly colonies. |

I generally prefer less rules as well. The changes outlined in the post you linked to seemed more than reasonable to me. Defining offenses, adding an appeals process while still allowing friendly ribbing? What’s wrong with that? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I watched war rifles go bat shit crazy w no moderation 15 years ago and the firing line go the opposite direction. GD has always been a happy medium to me. I certainly hope that remains the case.

On a serious note, I personally like Ed Avila Sr, as I've met him and chatted with him a bit.
The rest of AR15.com staff and mods, I don't know any of these people personally, for the most part I find these people to be ok. It puzzles me though, that no one had a big enough brain to sit down and figure out / chart the growth rate for this place, and to have an understanding for the ratio of mods:members necessary for smooth operations? Just because it's the internet does not mean it has to scale infinitely. That does not work in nature, not sure why anyone thought it would work in virtual reality. GD should either be pay to enter, time on site to enter, number of posts to enter and likewise, number of infractions to be booted, with a mandatory minimum time off period before re-entry. |
