I consulted with my mushroom expert. They said the first one may be Chanterelles(edible) but they were way past their prime and wouldn’t taste good. Wasn’t sure about the second but it too was past it’s prime.

I’ve seen two quotes from college professors that are SMEs on mushrooms in the south. Both said they don’t feel safe eating any southern mushrooms because the poisonous ones are too similar in appearance to edible mushrooms.

The horse hoofs are hard as a rock... I hit the trails w/ my friend who picks certain ones a long the way, I still cant recognize the good ones.

I've always wondered how early man figured out which shrooms were safe to eat.

Trial and error just doesn't cut it because I think after the first error there would be no more trials.

I'd never eat a shroom after watching a tribemate have his liver turned into goo by one.

There are some like that for sure, most of the pros around here will avoid anything in the Amanita family because the 'tells' between painful death and tasty versions are more squeeze than the juice is worth.

That said, we stick to the easily identifiable and safe. Black Trumpets, hen/chicken of the woods, chantarelles, lions mane.

I’ve never heard of people eating the second one
But people used to sell those things after drying them out with wood burning art or painted at craft shows

If you do try them, start off easy and watch for a reaction. Even edible mushrooms can make ya sick. Regardless, none of those are worth eating, even if they are edible, which I’m pretty sure they are not.

Good ones as in good edible mushrooms. Not the horse hoof, I dont think they are edible. Ive seen him pick the coral & last week he grabbed these bright yellow mushrooms...

Not much fun when the pictures suck, but those are not chanterelles. Way too fibrillose etc..

Best guess would be Lentinus citrinus for the first one (Ganoderma is correct for the polypore). Third pic might be Stereum but I can't see crap. Don't eat them OP, it is just a guess without seeing the gills etc. in focus.

Second looks like regular old 'wood conk'. Not edible. Don't know if they're poison but they're too hard to even chew. Those are pretty decayed/old too.
