At 9 years old I saw a 1963 Split window corvette….I knew then and there “ that was pure sex”…

It was always my dream car. I settled for other cars.

In 1981 the 22 year old newlywed me had the chance to trade a 71 Charger and some cash for a rough but running 63 SW. Couldn't agree on the cash, and then I found out that the wife was pregnant.

I love my daughter, but damnit, it was a 63 split window...

At 16 cars only mattered to me in that I needed a ride to the airport 'cause I'd soloed and I needed to finish my private pilot license.  My ultimate ride at the time was an A-10 to counter the Soviet horde in the Fulda Gap cause I wanted nothing more than to fly combat.

Serious case of car lust.

I was a simple lad. The Nissan Xterra had just come out, and I wanted one badly. Almost as badly as the Clintons wanted Epstein dead. Unfortunately, my want was never realized.

1969 Ford Mustang in wimbeldon white. I passed a house in my neighborhood on my way to and from highschool that had a coupe and fastback in the driveway. Both 1969 in wimbeldon white. The Mach I fastback with louvers was my dream car. When I was old enough to buy one I worked under a guy who used to restore Mustangs and drove a 1967 coupe that he had done. Beautiful car. I was still driving a hand me down from my parents and living extremely cheap so I started to save up for one. He was willing to work with me on the restoration for way cheaper than he should have but advised me to buy something more modern until I could afford one as a second vehicle as they aren't very good to drive full time. I am glad I took his advice and avoided buying a classic car because everyone I knew that did ended up selling them after just a few years.

Maybe someday...

Lamborghini Diablo,

I had posters of the Countach in my room with Cindy Crawford.

When the Diablo came out it was an easy transition.

The VR4’s were a favorite of mine at the time. Twin turbo V6 AWD was awesome for the genre. I remember seeing them new on showroom floors.

I later developed an appreciation for the DSM 4-bangers. I owned several. Even had a aftermarket manufacturing business for them. They hold a special place in my automotive tinkering history.

My absolute favorite, though, was a ‘90 Galant GSX AWD I picked up that had tossed a timing belt for $700 around y2K.

I dropped in a built 4G63 with a T3/T4 hybrid & a whole host of goodies. Ran mid-11’s. I miss that car. It’s on my short list of ones I never should have sold including my 66 Nova.

16 is a hard one - probably did not know what I wanted.  By 18 I kind of wanted a MR2, Fierro, or a Iroc, oh and some Dodge/Mitsubishi shit (Dodge Conquest).  I sat in the MR2, might have test drove the Conquest.  Got the Iroc.  But dream car, maybe a Pantera.

Ok, probably a 1970's piece of shit - but then again most 70's cars were.  I remember my brother - the got his dream car, a early 70's Charger, modified for the track.  I think he realized it was not a daily driver within 20,000 miles - but oh it flew.  Kind of bet he wishes it was still in his garage, but keeping it running - that was an effort.

1.) Most kids of the 80's liked the Countach and the 911, but the slantnose 935 was the "Whhhaaaat"? kind of exotic one-up on the "normal" Porsche. Condorman chase scene, ya know.

2.) Ford GT is punk as heck. A flipped middle finger to eurotrash fashion. "Oh, you've got a Ferarri? Yeah, I'm a Ford man, muhself." :D That and the 60's Corvettes will always be next-level classy to me.

3.) But personally, the one I still dig after all the kid stuff has gotten tiring: I was in college in D.C. in the early 90's and saw this behemoth tonka toy I'd never heard of before. No one had these back then. Smitten with an absolutely unstylish, anti-cool, square box of thicckness.
