Even though Fallout 4 will be great, stop pre-ordering games this late out from release.
It's going to be a broken mess at launch (just like Fallout 3, probably  ), and we're all going to love every single minute of it, but those who make broken games at launch will never learn not to do so if we give them a billion dollars for a game that is 6 months away from launch. 
The collector's edition Pip Boy isn't even modeled correctly.

My brother did a pre order on the PS4 console 6 months before launch day and he got his PS4 with no problems and there were over 100 people in line at midnight. Walmart is an easy midnight release spot as well. Another thing is my local best buy wont be having a midnight release for the game.My town is too small for them to open for a game release.They never do it unless its a console. So i just go when they open the doors at 10am the day of launch and get one of the first copies.Has always worked for me |

I'm collecting images of it so I can see exactly what needs to be done. The thing is you're getting a capsule for it as well like it's brand new so technically it should look pristine even if the one in game isn't since he found it around a skeleton's arm.

Does anyone know how the actual pipboy works with the smart phones? If it fits different sizes, a smaller phone could look really awkward if there is a hole in the front. If there is a connector that powers a screen in front of the phone and the dials work that would really cool.
ETA: looking at the picture, I think it is my second guess and I can't wait.

It opens up and your phone goes in. It comes with multiple layers of foam so it can work with different phones. The dials are for show and you work it on your phone's touch screen. If they made it like you described it would probably cost $1,000 a lot, maybe more. They don't ever reveal all of the mechanics in the initial reveal. They've got to keep people interested until launch. It may be too early to tell exactly how, but Bethesda has made it pretty clear that the formula used in FO3/NV has been changed slightly. Going off the SPECIAL descriptions, Intelligence is now tied to XP. I think that merits some speculation. |

They don't ever reveal all of the mechanics in the initial reveal. They've got to keep people interested until launch. It's a gameplay mechanic that has been there since FO1 (going back to GURPS), and glaring in its absence. That doesn't have the look of a "it's just not implemented yet" thing. |

I think it has less to do with keeping interest and more to do with "that shit don't work yet". With as many bugs as come in the first release of Fallout titles that should be no surprise.
