If I'd have shoved a lump of Titanic pea coal up my ass before watching that video, I'd have a 5 carat diamond right now.

Ouch. I wonder what failed. Did she lock her knees in or ?
Looked like the knee bent backwards, but also looked like the bone broke under the hinge join of the knee.. I can dislocate both of my knees and bend them backward, it hurts like mutherfocker for a week or so and I dont walk right for awhile. |
|
At least she's out her growth stage, and at the end of her collegiate gymnastics career. That's going to be a long painful road to recovery but she should be okay.
|
|
Not particularly graphic at all, certainly not compared to the plethora of compound tibia/fibula fractures available from other athletes.
I would be very curious to know what exactly failed. The dislocation is evident, but not extremely pronounced. The fractures I assume are spiral because they do not otherwise suggest any structural failure. The PCL might be hyperextended but I don't see any obvious cause. Fascinating. She'll be fine when she recovers, though it might take 18 months. |

View Quote I did something a bit less to my left leg playing hockey.... took 1.5 years to walk proper :( (still cannot lock it properly) |

With knees that bend that direction she should have done the routine to Surfin Bird.

Not to say that wasn't awful, but I was actually expecting worse. Like that basketball dude from a few years back x2. Shin at a 90 degree angle, bone sticking out.

postin, wont be watching feeling queasy just reading the replies, fuckkkkkkkk

The video itself isn't bad. Babies. It's not natural for that to happen, for sure. I have dislocated my left patella 3 times. Worst pain ever. As long as she didn't sever any veins/loses blood flow, she should be 95%. After long and painful therapy. God bless her. I hope she's at least comfortable.

Saw news article earlier that did not show but basically say said "Holy Fork".
Yeah, one of those videos I would not choose to watch again. Best of luck, Best Wishes to her. But on the american note, is there cause to someone? Faulty setup? .......? After all did the dims teach us nothing but to SUE as nothing is our fault? |

My knee did that. I know how she feels.
That's gonna bother her for the rest of her life. |

Damn, her recovery is going to be long and extremely difficult. She’ll never be able to do gymnastics again. View Quote I used to do it in a former life, & still strength train using the same principles, but the tumbling is out. One of my coaches was an elite level competitor who had a full scholarship ride at Berkeley in the 70's, & was on the path to the Olympics until he got injured himself & had to sit out of the trials. He told me once a meet once, he was prepping a floor routine & looked for a moment over to watch a guy on the high bar take a nasty fall & then his whites turned all red. Obviously, participation means risk. The recovery will be no fun, but she'll get through it. |

Looks like the same injury my brother had 20 years ago. He was using a push mower and standing at the top of a little hill to let the mowerroll down a couple feet and then he would pull it back up like a lat row. His feet slipped out from under him on the wet grass. Both kneecaps detached. He had both legs in casts to prevent bending the knees during recovery. It sucker but he recovered.

Didn't bother me to watch honestly.
Seeing accidents like that make me be sure to take calcium. I've been playing basketball since I was in 4th grade, never taken much calcium in my life until I saw that Paul George injury. Then I got on vitamin d, vitamin K2-mk7, magnesium, strontium every once in a while, and 1500mg a day of calcium. |

A few years ago I remember watching a documentary about young people and school athletic programs. As it turned out, gymnastics and cheerleading programs had far more grievous injuries than football. That poor kid View Quote FFS people, odds are your kid probably isn’t going to be a sports pro or get that scholarship, and definitely not if they’re crippled before they’re outta high school. Hope that chick recovers, and best wishes on her aerospace career. She should be glad the “Wide World of Sports” intro thing is gone, she could replace that ski jumper dude. |

Ripped a knee up pretty good as a gymnast in my late teens. Not gonna watch this. If it's as bad as GD makes it sound there's no way I won't hurl.

Specious logic. Many gymnasts do that kind of stuff all the time without problems. She probably lacked calcium, or one or more of the micronutrients needed for bone formation. Calcium alone doesn't activate osteoblasts (bone forming cells). It appears as though only strontium does this. Making bone takes many ingredients and the proper ratio of magnesium, vitamin D, k2 and others are needed.
