Quoted: What if there are too many cars for just the right lane to accommodate? Obviously, the extra cars have to go in the left lane. Plus, since the left lane gets used less frequently, it has fewer bumps and ruts in it, and is a smoother ride. View Quote The passing lane is for passing, why is that a difficult concept to grasp? |

Quoted: A simple solution that I'd love to see implemented is have a mildly annoying rumble strip in the left lane. The NPCs with double digit IQs will naturally herd themselves into the right lane due to the mild annoyance. It doesn't even have to be the entire length of the left lane. Maybe every 30 seconds make it rumble enough for a few seconds to trigger their lizard brain into moving out of the fucking way. View Quote Route 66 America the beautiful rumble strip. |

Quoted: I suspect he didn't write a ticket and doubt you can be written a ticket for failing to speed. View Quote My dad got a ticket for driving too slow coming home from drill once. It was late, a car was tailgating him trying to pass, so he slowed down. It didn't pass, so he slowed down more. Turns out the car was a cop and he pulled him over for driving too slow. When the cop asked him why he was driving so slow, my dad told him he thought he was tailgating him because he was drunk, and my dad was trying to give him room to pass. I guess the cop didn't like that answer so he gave him a ticket. |

When I want to pass there is always some dumb fuck, who is left lane camping. “I’m doing the speed limit” fuck you get over or stop driving. Left lane is for passing, it should apply to semi trucks as well.
I get stuck behind Texans here frequently and y’all drive slow as fuck here. Go 10 over & no one will bat an eye, DPS doesn’t give a shit. They are looking for the losers who have expired tags and are weaving in traffic. If I want to drive fast that is my business. |

I don't follow the rule to a T. I'll always cede the left lane to faster traffic, but generally inhabit a middle lane on 3+ lane roadways. Gives you more reaction time if something jumps out at ya, and don't have to move left for on-ramps.

The driver was in the left of 3 lanes so he should have moved over to at least the middle lane or the right lane.
With 3 lanes, the left is always for passing just like a 2-lane; the middle is for standard travel; the right is for merging on to or exiting the freeway. The white vehicle was actually wrong even at the speed limit. I'm surprised nobody on GD has yet to blow a gasket over the white vehicle being a Honda Ridgeline. |

30 years ago I had a Travis County motor deputy get a conviction on a state employee who was impeding traffic on I-35 for 55 in a 55. Her excuse was that she was going the speed limit so everyone else should.

I just recently lerned this myself!
In most states you can only be in the left lane, if you're actively passing people, regardless of speed limit. Who knew that the left lane was like the Auto Bahn and you can go as fast as you want! |

View Quote I found this video after someone from Utah complained about people being speed Karen's and driving slow in the passing lane on purpose to make others go the speed limit. I wonder where that is. In Utah they fly off cliffs, fall asleep and roll across the desert, drive into the oncoming lane, get into crazy road rage shoot outs, but I haven't see anyone drive slow. So is it OK to go 120 in the left lane since I'm passing people? What if I'm only doing 90 in a 60, and the guy behind me on a crotch rocket wants to go 140mph? Am I the bad guy for only doing 90? So when is a speed limit a speed limit?

I had a professor in law school who somehow managed to practice somewhere like Wyoming for a few years. I can't remember the state.
Anyway he went to a local justice court with a non lawyer judge (common in rural NY also). He and another lawyer were arguing a case and the judge suggested they go back in the judge's office and he'd look it up. The judge pulled some books off his shelf and was reading through them as the lawyers chatted. Then future law professor said "Judge, those are Idaho law books." The judge said the town couldn't afford to buy the books for Wyoming, but someone had given him the Idaho books and he figured it was better than nothing and probably pretty much the same. Thinking about it years later the judge was probably right. |

I got pulled over crossing the Navajo reservation but Navajo police.
He says "you know why I pulled you over?" Me: "no idea, this damn thing won't even hold the speed limit in this wind!" (Old Isuzu trooper with about a 50mph head wind) He laughed and says "that's exactly why. Only people driving the speed limit around here with tinted windows are running drugs. Good luck with this truck, hopefully the wind will shift and you can speed up!" |

Quoted: I like Mark Lamb. However the was he describes the statute is incorrect. Actually there are 2 title 28 statutes at play: driving in right side of roadway and impeding traffic. The first statute only means that you can't drive left of the centerline of the roadway except to pass. It does not mean you can't drive in the left lane that is already on the right side of the centerline. Impeding traffic means that if you have 5 or more vehicles behind you you need to pull over to let them pass. AZ does not have a law that prohibits left lane camping. However there are often posted signs on roadways that say "keep right, except to pass". As long as no sign is present you can legally camp in the left lane. The stretch of roadway this video was filmed on does have these signs. Violation of these sign is a separate statute under failing to obey a traffic control device. View Quote |

Quoted: No, it has a restriction of to be used for passing only. Sort of like that strip through the middle of town is for turning, you don't just drive in it. View Quote The diverse group in my location like to treat that strip as a passing lane but will refuse to use it whenever they make lefthand turns. They will literally block an oncoming lane before they figure out how to merge properly. As far as left lane camping goes in my area people go slow as fuck in it. When you get away from the Killeen/ Temple/ Hood area do people actually respect the signs and move over.... generally. On the county roads out in BFE the slower drivers tend to pull over and ride on the shoulder, if there is room so you can pass. |

Good stop and I wouldn't even be mad if the cop P.I.T.ed his ass off the road first. Learn to drive or take the bus. Because the laws conflict and are retarded much like anything the BATFe does. Shouting "I'm passing!" doesn't suddenly negate the speed limit laws. I understand the overall sentiment of allowing traffic to do what traffic does, but the laws themselves are conflicting. Let's also be honest here, most people don't "pass" in the left lane, they speed. Different on interstates, but within city limits, people just want to speed. Those two reasons are why the speed limits keep being brought up. |
