I believe Teddy Roosevelt infected America with Progressivism. The idea that government can, and should, take a more active role ruling individuals. From Teddy, and his ideological descendants, we get the big government we have today. While he's not as important as Lincoln, without the destruction of states rights, and the consolidation of power in a strong central government the goals of progressivism, socialism, collectivism, and central planning wouldn't be as easily accomplished. Lincoln made Teddy, and the Progressives possible. |
