Ah, the old Provo Academy. It used to be BYU. They won't count the football games we played against them when they occupied that building. Of course we (Utah) beat them those 5 times or so. It's now an LDS church Tabernacle. View Quote |

I don't have a clue about public funded construction in France, but typically, a contractor has to provide a bond and add the property as an additionally insured on their policy. How much bonding capacity does a GC need to do a full on renovation scope to a national treasure like that? View Quote |

Did you miss what went on over there the last 4 weeks or so? Up to a dozen churches torched or vandalized per week. This did not happen in a vacuum. Timing between the fire and the last tour group to go through is a giant red flag. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

While I'm no fan of the ROP, lets knock off the ROP conspiracy theories for now please. There's zero evidence of such at this time. It just makes this forum look like a bunch of loons. Visited Paris last fall. Sad to see historical architecture being destroyed.

Well, that "restoration" went well.
Hopefully the relics/artifacts inside can be saved. I hate seeing history destroyed. |

The investigation will be extensive. Just amazed that it went from potential construction related accident to construction related accident so quickly. Not surprised that possibility is what they led with and more details might shine light on why that was, but strange to me nonetheless. |

Absolutely. I just texted my wife and told her how lucky she is to have been there and seen it. But more than that, I don't know, I feel like whatever is coming, whatever it is, it's speeding up. Quoted: You are absolutely correct. It will be roughly 80% concern and cogent thought and 20% inbred, crayon eater. Maybe 75-25 but it's early. Let's see where the day takes us. And to those that think the incredibly stupid adage perpetually restated over time that the French will "surrender again," you have no clue what you are fucking talking about and should sit at the table in the corner and color while the adults talk. The French government is NOT the French citizenry who are an incredibly proud people. They are also less secular than we are here. They will look at this as a tragic loss for France AND the faithful, especially during Holy Week. IF and that's a mighty big IF, this turns out to be terrorism by any group including the Muslims, the French PEOPLE are going to take heads. View Quote |

fire started about mid day... not after hours. The place was fully staffed with hundreds of tourists streaming through at the time. Meanwhile, apparently someone - I'll give you one guess - involved in an attempt to destroy the place a few years ago was sentenced today. |

I hope a LOT of thought was put into determining if that renovation was necessary to sustain the building or not. Because the cost, assuming the an accident from the reno caused this, was evidently not worth it. Unless the building was going to collapse, they apparently had no business doing stuff to it.
Given that like a quarter of younger people in France are Muslim, it's possible that a Muslim construction worker on the project could have done it on purpose. I'm cynical and lean towards this not being a mistake. It's a darn shame. I remember seeing it in person a few years ago. Such a cool building. Never got to go inside. It was also cool seeing French soldiers with Famas's. Their were groups marching around on patrols. It's unfortunate they've already imported their enemy and put'em on welfare. |

Conclusion - we don't have enough info. But the endless posts blaming the ROPers doesn't do much except make us look like paranoid morons. Don't get me wrong, I have zero love for ROPers, and I'm not saying its not possible they didn't do this. But I'd like for at least SOME evidence before I point fingers. |

Quoted: Yup. Lots of folks here saying that they can rebuild it and today's artisans will be the ones to do it but in reality they may have an idea of how the thing was built but no one alive today world really have the skill and experience of what it takes to build this thing again. They will need an army of such people. View Quote |
