I wonder how all of the stonework will handle the cooling off process? Uneven contraction, joint opening and moving. Not to mention what the fire already did to the stone. View Quote Mortar isn’t going to hold up to that heat either. Walls will probably be highly unstable. Wouldn’t be surprised one bit to hear they need to be brought down. Hope I’m wrong. |

I haven’t read this entire thread. If someone did it on purpose, yeah that’s pretty shitty. If it was an accident then it was an accident. The French people are willingly destroying their own culture through their importation of third-world migrants. The loss of a building is the least of their problems. |

I'm late on this story and about to read this thread. Knowing GD is going to GD, I'm sure the conspiracy theorist/Muslims did it! has started here since it's all over the news article comment section...and GD has much of the same types of people. After making that comment I'm now seeing about half the posts here are all about the blame game. So I wasn't off. |

View Quote Old world craftsmanship aside, a reconstructed building can incorporate a lot of new materials and tech, while appearing traditional to the untrained eye. Every company in France would eagerly work on a restoration project. It's a matter of national pride (and pretty good advertising too) The artwork is another matter. Let's hope the most precious were saved. Some of course, like the windows, could not be |

With the ceiling being stone short of hanging for supression out side of it or drilling through it not much could be figured out. Looking like the fire is well on its way to being extinguished.
Currently seeing FFs on top of and in both towers doing inspections with no visible flames showing. Fire around the scaffolding appears to be significantly knocked down as well. |

if those are really recent then that gives some hope for the interior. The ceiling you see when inside Notre Dame is stone. Those shots show that most of the wood roof was caught by that stone and hasn't fallen all the way to ground level. likely some holes in that stone work has allowed some to fall through... especially where the spire was... so there will be damage and I have no way of knowing how long that ceiling will last or how firefighting under it is going. |
