I love mine. I bought one years back and for some stupid reason, I sold it. Always regretted letting it go so I tried to replace it with a Benelli M1S90 but it just wasn't the same. Last year I bought another M4, decked it out and have no plans to ever let it go.

My Benelli M4 would be the first gun I grabbed if, God forbid, a home invasion.

I'm not a shotgun guy at all, in fact I own exactly one which is the Benelli M4. I know there are other shotguns that are debatably as good or better than it in any category, but it's still an all around excellent package. Plus, those other alternatives aren't a Benelli M4.

One day I'll go to an extreme with that logic and end up with a doofy yet insanely cool SPAS to compliment it.

at one point they were backordered so I bought from daves.  not sure if they are making them now or just backed up.  from the website, intuit fucked them.  this may need a legislative fix, card processors playing politics.  we president now, this can be addressed.

As of October 22nd, 2016 our longstanding merchant credit-card processing contract with Intuit was terminated. Intuit stated they only support card present/face to face firearms related sales. This temporarily prevents us from invoicing or accepting payment for any new orders until we link to a card services provider whom supports internet transactions/sales related to the firearms industry !!! We will resolve this shortly,

We've had a Benelli M4 on our range for OVER four years and not once has it gone offline from parts failure. We only get a maximum of two months out of our Remington 870's and Mossberg 500's and 590's and the old saying.. "you get what you pay for" is 100% true when it comes to the Benelli. BTW, our Benellli has tens of thousands of buckshot through it.

The M4 is the closest thing to a true military-grade shotgun yet manufactured. It's a beast of a weapon.

If you can snag one at a good price without the neutered magazine capacity and you want a good semi-auto shotgun, go for it. Just be aware that the pistol-grip on shotguns isn't really the greatest idea in the world for most people's uses, as it tends to direct more of the weapon's recoil into the hand. It was designed so entry guys could open doors and still use the weapon...a niche adaptation that doesn't translate well for everyone else.

Personally I don't like the collapsible stock on the M4 very much. Apart from that I think it's a fundamentally good shotgun. Opinions on it vary considerably in terms of whether or not it is worth the extra cost over other guns, including other Benelli shotguns.

If you are just looking for a good semi-auto shotgun, the Beretta 1301 is a damn fine option. It's lighter, handier, has a little bit less felt recoil (in my opinion) and runs with any ammo I've crammed into it. I like mine so much I bought another one last month. A lot of people have been putting serious round counts through the 1301 shotguns with no trouble to report so far. I can tell you mine works splendidly even when it has a bunch of grex and like half a colony of smushed red ants in the receiver.

I got my M4 for $1300 and some change from Buds make an offer, then ArmsUnlimited had the 1301 for like $799, that came with features I had to pay extra to put on my M4. The M4 is badass, but if I had to do it over I probably would have went for the 1301 and called it a day.
