I liked him as the Polish General, Sosabowski in A Bridge too Far. Not a large role, but I liked him in it.

Lt. Gen. Browning:
Only the weather can stop us now.

Maj. Gen. Sosabowski:
Weather! Christus! General Browning, what of the Germans? Don't you think that if we know Arnhem is so critical to their safety that they might know it too?

Lt. Gen. Browning: Now, look here. The few troops in the area are second class. They're not frontline caliber, not at all, do you understand? I think you ought to have a little more faith in Montgomery's intelligence reports, you know. He's done pretty well for us in last three or four years.

Maj. Gen. Sosabowski: I will tell you the extent of my faith. I am thinking of asking for a letter from you stating that I was forced to act under your orders in case my men are massacred.

Lt. Gen. Browning:
I see... I do see. Do you wish such a letter?

Maj. Gen. Sosabowski:
No... No, of course not. In the case of massacre, what difference will it make?

you left out the best line:

"just looking to see whose uniform you are wearing"

Uncommon Valor.  Probably not his best, but my particular favorite.

Remember seeing it in the theater with my Pops; holy shit, I am getting old.

I saw him and liked him in 1968 "Bonnie & Clyde" when I was a kid. Liked him even more as popeye Doyle in the "French Connection". Started to dislike him after seeing him in 1997 "Absolute Corruption" where he plays a Bill Clinton pervert fucking that broad.  Came to the conclusion, the guy always plays a good prick a little too well..... so that I believe he actually must be a real prick and I don't like him so much any more!

One of the few films that has become true. Actually if the writer ever did a reboot they'd have a lot of material to work with and make it a multi part series.

Yep.  He retired from acting 15 years ago.  His last movie was Welcome to Mooseport, I think.  Good on him for enjoying some retirement time, but man, I miss his work.
