For those of you with the Microgech Scarab Executive, are you able to mount the clip on the other side?  I’m interested in picking one up, but am a southpaw.

Yes, the pocket clip is reversible.  Just stick a roll pin punch, small screwdriver, nail, etc. in one of the holes in the side of the glass breaker and unscrew it.  Flip the pocket clip to the other side and screw the glass breaker back down

I get where he's coming from. I have no issue with the cheap knives from China everyone is loving.

The issue is, everyone is loving the fact that they are blatantly using Microtech's name, on packaging, the knives, everything.

That is what is disgusting. If they would just put their name on the knives, that's fine, but putting Microtech's name on everything is fucking wrong.

I agree, sort of. I collect Microtech, and have for 21 years. But, because of their cost, I didn't use them as much as I would a $50 knife. So, I bought some of the high quality fakes to beat up.

I'm kind of ashamed. I don't think I'd feel better about it if they didn't say Microtech. The design is straight-up stolen, and not just the concept. A lot of parts are interchangeable. Marfione is kind of a dick, but his OTF designs are flat out the best (for production knives) and I do believe these are a grievous wrong.

But at these prices, with decent materials and construction they are hard to resist. Even just for curiosity sake.

I just realized that there are multiple sellers of the same models.  The two I've seen specifically named as recommended are:
Mgfknife
Cncostco
Are there any differences in the quality from the different sellers?  Are the products all coming from the same manufacturer, but through different sellers (working with different profit margins, hence the different prices for the same knife), or are the different sellers supplied from different manufacturers?  I want the best bang for my Yuan.

Some sellers offer that as an option.

Some will even let you have your own custom logos engraved if you place a large order.

My Combat Trodoon is scheduled to be delivered on the 9th, so I will post pics when it gets here.  As for my ultratech clone, I am believing it is D2 steel as a stone couldn't get it sharp enough.  I ordered a set of diamond stones to hone the edge to where it will cut paper finally.

Which Ultratech did you get?  The full size one or the UTX-85?  I'm trying to decide between the two.  I want something slightly smaller than the Scarab, but definitely not as small as the UTX-70.

I think that's considered full size?  The UTX-85 is a little smaller and the 6th screw is offset and not lined up with the one on the other side.  The UTX-70 is the really small one.

This thread cost me money. I was late to the party and did some DHgate shopping over the weekend. I wasn’t sure exactly want I wanted to get so I ordered 6 different knives. They still haven’t shipped yet, but I will have a Combat Troodon, Cypher, Halo V, mini Ultratech, Scarab Exuctive, and a H&K mini Turmoil all on there way eventually.

Picked up a Troodon for the wife and a Scarab for myself.

Both work fine, fire and retract with authority, and sharpened up really well after a little ceramic work, just a little wobble on the Troodon, Scarab is tight.

Got them both delivered for under $55, I’ll probably pick up one or two of the more expensive Executive models.

Did they generate shipping number yet? If not, 4 to 5 days. If there is a number, paste it into usps tracking and it will tell you where it is.

My Trodoon still shows as waiting to be picked up by shipper in HK but usps shows it in Los Angeles.

I would concur with your sentiments about IP theft and trademark infringement regarding these products.

Given this website’s historical conservative approach to any activity that could be construed as illegal or even “gray-area”,  I am actually surprised that this thread has been allowed to go on as long as it has given the direction it has taken over the past 10 pages as basically an open air advertisement for counterfeit microtech products along with direct links to buy them.

If an individual takes it upon themselves to buy and facilitate the illegal importation of a Chinese counterfeit products to the United States and keeps it to themselves it’s one thing.  However, if AR15.com openly allows detailed reviews and provides links on where to purchase counterfeit merchandise,  it opens up the site and its owners up to potential legal action.

This is a website that has concerns about somebody reposting content of a publically available news article… and it’s pretty obvious based on the comments like “this site just cost me a bunch more money, check out my new clone knives”  and “these fakes are better than these other fakes from x or y suppliers”  that this site is treading pretty close to aiding and abetting IP and Trademark theft of Microtech’s products and trade dress.

This isn’t a case of Anderson copying a decade plus patent expired product like an Armalite AR15 or even somebody who made a personal one off retro Colt/Pony marked M16 601 clone for personal use that Colt didn’t/doesn’t  commercially sell.  This is a full on discussion of the  purchase and illegal importation of counterfeit products from China on a “for profit” commercial scale and is excused because folks don’t personally like the owner of the OEM.

The principal at Microtech may not be the nicest guy in the world, may not have the best customer service, and/or “over-charge” for his products…however given that AR15.com owners value their IP and Trademark protections I don’t suspect they would take kindly to a thread over on say Bladeforum about all of the counterfeit AR15.com “bolt-face” merchandise folks were buying direct from China at a significant discount.    Nor would I assume they would allow a thread like this to propagate to this extent if the counterfeit product was one produced by one of the popular site sponsors, like Larue, Geissele, or Magpul.  “Hey check out my $49 clone Larue mounts from China…they even have the Larue logo on them and also came with a fake dillo.   Get the ones from this chicom site www.fakelaruemounts.cn as they are much better than these other “airsoft” versions I got from eBay.”

From a victimless-crime perspective many companies like Microtech, Rolex, etc. that have large counterfeiting problem have significantly scaled back spare parts and or end user support over the years in an attempt to stem the flow of counterfeiters (or end users) incorporating some factory parts into the design to try and make it more authentic.   So when folks who bought original products from highly counterfeited OEMs and the legitimate end owner want to either service or modify that product and they then run into the inability to get bezels, straps, screws, clips or glass-breakers, etc. they can partially thank the counterfeit market for the highly controlled supply chain and/or convoluted support process.

I am sure the reaction to this post will receive a similar warm welcome that others have received who also expressed concern/disbelief on the counterfeit feeding frenzy this thread has become….so will let you all continue on your topic without any further commentary.

That's counterfeiting, and not only is it wrong, it's illegal.
I'll carry a Chinese TwoSun that looks a little like a Sebenza, but I won't buy a direct knockoff in a fake Reeves box.

I'll wear a Datejust style Bagelsport watch, especially if I can get it for less than a Chinese bracelet is worth, but if the Hong Kong seller accidentally sends me a "Rolex" I won't be happy (that actually happened to me, bought two and one of them was a Rolex, complete with crown etched in the crystal and Rolex hologram sticker on the back).

Very similar.  People most certainly could buy "authentic" Armalites, but they choose to buy [knockoff] Andersons instead, because they don't want to pay 5x as much for the same damn thing.

People could buy a real retro Colt.  But they choose to make a fake instead, because it's so much cheaper and "almost as good" as the real thing.

We aren't buying fake OTF knives because we hate America or we want to resell them for profit.  We're buying them for the same reason people buy Andersons and make fake retro Colts instead of buying the "real thing."  Because the "real thing" is ridiculously priced.

Your virtue signal needs new batteries.

I agree the branding infringement is cheep and unnecessary.

China is producing better products all the time. No need to use names and logos,  but china going to China.

So lets get back to talking about quality and judging them for what they are. Not if china is a no good copy cat that we know they are.

Same. Seller says it’s shipped. HKPS says “no”

These are $50 clones of $500+ knives.

Microtech isn't losing any sales over these Chinese clones.

Stop your hand wringing, logout, and leave the house for once.

It's still IP theft and it's one of the biggest threats faced by our country. I'm truly surprised people here would support Chinese theft so that they can have a cool toy.

The irony is that Microtech knocked off Zero Tolerance's 0777 design in their Matrix series. Think there were also a few other disputes they had with other knifemakers as well.

Good thing their gun business failed... that terrible AUG clone of theirs was an insult to the original.

Maybe you could explain to me how somebody who bought a rifle that I drove an hour to their city so they could do an person inspection (including field stripping the gun in front of me to inspect) and then refused to allow me to give them full cash refund because they flipped it to somebody else for personal profit due to the sandy hook panic... but posted negative feedback anyway is an integrity problem for me.

Nice personal attack by the way.  I guess I should expect as much in a thread full of folks bragging about buying counterfeit products.

Stay classy.....

My post above was a commentary more on the aspect of this website which itself heavily relies upon brand and trademark protection for its own success, allowing a thread that was initially started about quality OTF knives to devolve into an online back-alley Chinese flea market booth of counterfeit products and the legal risk that entails to the site owners.   (Not to mention potentially ceding the moral high ground in the process as well)

Again... maybe you could help point out where in my original post above I personally attacked you?

Well, you're really gonna be flabbergasted when you see how all the "what should I buy on Amazon?" threads devolve into a discussion of fuck torsos.

I provided no additional commentary until there was an pretty obvious personal personal attack to which I responded.

Obviously folks here are pretty passionate about their knockoffs and this has turned into a full on dumpster fire of Simpsons, Big Lewboski, and some guy I think who used to be on SNL memes attempting to justify their actions.

Enjoy you counterfeit product(s)... I am permanently stepping off this train.
