The blue USN is hot garbage.
Since "best" is pretty subjective, I think the most versatile is probably ASAT. That yellowish cream color just seems to pick up whatever is around it and just work. I walked up on 2 does browsing in the 3D suit I have. I just stopped, and they looked at me for a few beats, then went back to eating. |

I was always impressed with plain old woodland. You can get specific patterns that work very well with specific areas/times, but woodland does alright in most.
The urban pattern that was basically woodland pattern with black, gray, and white probably wouldn't be all that great in real use, but I always thought it looked really cool. |

Personally, I find the camo matters less than how you use it. I've got so many different patterns with next to nothing that matches, just break up your outline or gain the high ground/tree. That said, I have never hunted people so perhaps I am missing something.

I'm no expert, but my perception is that for effectiveness, Multi-Cam is at the top of the pile. I don't own a single piece of it though I like the pure versatility of coyote and the browner shades of olive drab. I think there are definitely some useless and even detrimental camo patterns out there, but I think there are a lot of diminishing returns. Once you get to "decent," you really aren't doing all that much by investing tons of resources getting better than decent.
Of course the best ever pattern in the history of patterns is the pattern used by the Colonial Marines. I do think it's a pretty cool pattern in all honesty. Shame that it was custom and that replicas garments are so expensive.  |

My favorite around here is Multicam Tropic. It’s a shame that nobody makes any clothes in that pattern because it’s perfect in the swamps.
ACU still wins the Most Useless Camo Pattern Ever Award. It’s just garbage. |

In north Texas, Multicam and Kryptek Highlander work amazingly well. In summer, woodland Marpat does as well.
You'd think Alpenflage would suck there but I had a kid almost step on me once when I was wearing it

I’ve used a lot of patterns over the years - vocational experience with the following:
ERDL was actually pretty awesome in a heavy foliage environment; and I still like OD jungle fatigues for most anywhere. Only real complaint is that RS cloth is a bit noisy when moving. Woodland was not that great in the field unless it was really faded. Fortunately, we were authorized to use OD rip-stop jungles for quite a while into the BDU era. I always wished that they’d just have made ERDL in 50/50 NYCO BDU pattern fatigues. My first tigerstripes came from Thailand and were a very warm gold-green color with broad stripes (it wasn’t anything like the American commercial stuff) - they worked surprisingly well in most temperate environments if there was any foliage to speak of. The cloth was a heavy, soft cotton - very quiet. UCP = epic fail - perfect only for the rare gravel pit. Worst official pattern ever IMHO. I always thought they were seriously fugly. Began using multicam right after Crye started selling the cloth to other vendors like Eagle Industries- long before it was being used by the big army (OCP is one of the few smart gear choices they’ve made in recent years). Multicam/OCP (not the same but close enough) probably the best all-around pattern for universal, go anywhere kind of use. It really works and you can get an extensive selection of LBE. I still have a pile of it. The old Austrian pea camouflage pattern is marvelous for fall-winter where I live now and I’ve acquired quite a bit. The cloth is a modal/cotton blend that’s really quiet, very durable, but heavy if it gets wet. ETA: I always thought British DPM was a really nice looking pattern. |

 Worst- We used to wear this Subdued Urban Digital camo at work, the cut on the pants was terrible, the crotch was down too low people would constantly blow out the crotch when dropping down to a kneeling position on the firing line. Best- probably Multicam or A-TACS FG |

For general green-ish and gray soil areas dirty OD fatigues are pretty good, the more faded the better. They are just kind of a faded no-color that blends in everywhere.
Leaf litter / dark swamp / palmetto thickets - tiger stripe. Rocky desert areas - the old desert BDU or desert tiger stripe. |
