ACU- Army Combat Uniform.

UCP- Universal Camo Pattern.

They’re not interchangeable terms, I have ACU’s- in M81 (not BDU’s) & Multicam.

Ooooh, is it the reversible, with woodland on one side?

Ive come close to buying a set, just because its interesting. Looks like a 90s fashion print.

Nah, just the outside. Also have a flak vest cover and helmet cover in it as well.

Best for where?

Military camo attempts to be "jack of all trades". Hunting camo tends to be more specific.

I wouldn't say worst.  Pointless maybe.  Makes them harder to see on their grey ships...

Hard to choose a best since it is relative to the environment.

But hands down the worst pattern is UCP/USN Bluberries/digital patterns.

For tree stand hunting where the game will see me against the sky I'll use white camo that has other colors to break up the solid white. It stands out less than other colors in that situation.

In Africa the hunters and PH’s typically just wear olive or brown when hunting.  Seems to work out ok.

I've joked that you couldn't wear ACU digital camo to hide in a field made out of ACU. It's the neon light of camouflage.

I use mossy oak bottomland for hunting. Then again my AO is timber and rock.

Yep - Kuiu verde. Probably one of the more versatile patterns out there. Most of the moderately open modern hunting patterns are way more effective than the mil stuff, which just blobs up at any distance.

For mil stuff, Flecktarn, Cadpat, and Marpat seem like they'd be good in certain environments. That A Tacs stuff that someone posted looks sweet - first I've heard of it.

Marpat Woodland is probably the best issued for the forests. Even multicam stands out when 50% of background is "dead leaf brown".

When I did paintball I had a mesh overpant that looked like a screenshot of a leaf pile, it made you disappear.

I think the chairforce's ABU was worse than the army's ACU.
I'm glad they went together, back to a standard. Better for supply chain.

"Camo is what you do when you get there". - Bob Lee Swagger

The environment you're in, will determine what the best camo is. There is no "best" without specifying when & where its used.

Example: best can be white painters' coveralls for use in the snow covered woods... white worked pretty good for Simo Hayha.   But worst can also be white, for the same woods in summertime 'green'.

That being said, my 'favorite' camo pattern for all around use is the atacs patterns, fg & au... which one, depends on the season & terrain. For winter, either pure white or Nat Gear Snow (I'm in far northern WI, where it's mostly white for 6 months of the year).

Blue navy digital ACU or kryptek is the worst.

I really like ATACS. Love me some tiger stripe, too.

Atacs AU or FG are pretty good.

Pity they are discontinued.

Marpat is useful in my swamp. Cadpat is great for spring turkey season.

I'm going to go with that blue digital sailor-drowning facilitator the USN cooked up.

Given its intended purpose, the size and timing of its adoption, the budget they had to work with, AND all the prior data they collected before some jackass in a cubicle designed it with zero field testing .... no, UCP pattern is definitely the worst.

All that money would have paid for a hell of a lot of training.

My AO has 4 distinct seasons which necessitates different patterns of camo. What seems to work well here would be ineffective in an arid climate.

Quoting this because everyone in this thread sucks and doesn’t understand Army acronyms.

The UCP is the digital pattern whereas ACU is the uniform itself.

What's interesting is, that picture was NOT taken to demonstrate how good the camo is.  It was just a random photo taken of the other guys I worked with.

Fun fact: Denmark didn't have ANY camo intended for environments other than Denmark.  So when Denmark joined the war in Afghanistan and later Iraq, they literally had to develop a new "desert" version of the m84 just for that purpose.

Danish m84 is one of the best patterns ever made, and I am totally not biased .

Although it is considered a variant of the German Flectarn, it was (allegedly) developed independently, and was issued before Flectarn.

Wow some effective face paint and from 100 yards away it would be hard to see them

We did the same with M90, but a lot of our other gear remained green.

Makes sense.  Khaki is remarkably effective out west in the high desert, so I would expect OD to work well wherever there is vegetation.

There are a lot of worsts.  Anything with a tight pattern looks like a single blob beyond short distances.

The best is ASAT (All Season All Terrain).  It's been around at least a couple of decades and isn't "cool" looking, but it's large, open pattern breaks up the human form like nothing else and blends in well in very well with most terrain.

ASAT

Predator camo is another oldie, but goodie camo, especially the brown and green versions.
