From a documentary with Mel Brooks, Mel said he wrote the jokes for the black characters, Pryor wrote the jokes for the white characters.
Could this movie be even made/remade today? Not a chance today even if the Wayans or Typler Perry did it. Now I would say 10 yrs ago, maybe, but there still would be some stuff not allowed. |

Story I read said the movie company couldn't get Pryor insured due to his drug issues etc. Brooks really wanted Pryor and almost quit over the deal but they worked out a compromise eventually.
