It is cool, yet I cannot overstate how much I hate optics mounted to carry handles.

Quoted: Yup. Basically a late 733 (A2 upper) with an XM177 moderator. Fixed carry handle carbines are light and handy. View Quote More like an early 733, as it has a 2nd generation (aluminum) buttstock and 2-position buffer tube, and an A1 lower receiver. The actual prop gun is a chopped-up Guatemalan surplus M-16A2 that was shipped by Colt with a leftover A1 lower, with commercial/export M-16A2 markings. They chopped the 20" barrel to somewhere around 11" and made a new gas block journal and shoulder, which based on a close-up of the company's cut-down jobs for Black Hawk Down, look intermediate between 0.625" and 0.75" (probably had to use shims or something to make the A2 FSB fit), which might also explain why they were able to cant the Surefire mount without necessarily having to grind on it like folks have had to do with a 0.75" FSB. They cut up the rifle-length A2 handguards and put them back together to make them look like the old skinny carbine handguards (which is why the prop gun has a triangular front handguard cap). The fixed stock was replaced by a commercial-spec 2nd generation collapsible stock and 2-position buffer tube. They fabricated something somewhat resembling a moderator (which ended up looking more like the earlier version used on the 607). For BHD, they fabricated something to resemble the suppressor that was supposed to be on Gordon's carbine, since the real suppressors were difficult to obtain, IIRC. Carry handle mount for the Aimpoint has a Weaver rail. |

Quoted: Speaking of which anyone have a line on barrel mounts for lights that aren't crap View Quote I had a tough time finding a barrel mount. I thought perhaps the mag tube clamp from an 870 (the factory Remmington clamp specifically) could be made to work. But with Remington stuff being almost unobtanium right now...... (I don't like buying used stuff) I ended up going with this on my rifle above. https://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/tmc-1-light-mount-n-slot/ Nice sleek setup if you want to stick with standard handguards. And you can remove the ring to mount various scout type lights. I moved it back one hole from the front of the handguard to keep the light behind the flash hider. With the widespread popularity of the AR and the huge accessory market. I'm kinda puzzled by how nobody makes a simple snug fitting flashlight clamp that can mount between the gasblock...."legs"? And not leave your light hanging way down below the barrel. |

I know, was joking. My first ar was a ban era bushy. A2 upper, pinned stock, ak74 muzzle brake, shaved bayo lug. Still have it. |
