My first AR was a Bushmaster A2 model with 14.5 barrel with AK 74 brake.
I love the A2 carry handle. I put a Aimpoint Pro on it for a few years then removed it and put a Burris AR 332 on it.
I needed the Aimpoint for a different AR.
Love the rifle

I think it's meant to represent an 11.5" carbine (733), but looks like the prop gun carbines were cut closer to 11".  Here's a picture of one of the prop guns showing how far it was cut down (these were all originally 20" rifles).

This is how they're marked:

This is the actual carbine DiCaprio used on top, painted differently for another movie, with the faux suppressor from BHD attached to it:

Another photo of the actual carbine, showing the handguards made using cut up M-16A2 handguards:

This is what the prop carbines looked like before being turned into carbines:

I enjoy rifles like this. Mine isn't a CAR, but it has the carry handle and Aimpoint 5000. The chin weld isn't bad like some others have said. I finished most of the things for my rifle last month. I found out I had the Surefire barrel weapons mount and weaver mount in a box. The light was on my Tavor. So, off it came and it is now instead on the rifle below. I need a new picture with the light. I have a Colt Commando kit I put together. It's is an 11.5" rifle and very handy. I couldn't find pictures of it on my phone. I've gone back and forth on carry hane or red dot. A COMP M2 won out for now.

ETA: Found two shorties pictures, but they are 10.3s. I need to Form 1 the lower pistol still.

Tbh, I prefer carry handle mounting over most mount heights. Cheek weld is gay. Chin weld is quicker.

for what it is worth Surefire made rifle length M500s for triangular handguard rifles. I have a round handguard rifle length M500. On the box it has a check list on wither the handguard for triangular or round. Mine of course, is checked as round.

They have two that are essential what I am wanting to build, assuming they are GTG may as well just buy rather than searching all over for unobtanium parts.

They built the upper for my NCR Service Rifle for me. I got it pretty much exactly in the time frame they said I would.

They're a small shop (maybe even just one guy), so they do have kinda long wait times, and things can bog down based on parts availability.

I'm an example of one, though, and I do know others have had issues with them, particularly when it came to communications.

I believe that was a Blackhawk Down Gun.

South African mercenaries carry an unusual Colt CAR-15 variation that does not appear to be a factory-standard gun. These rifles have the receivers of M16A2s (which would normally suggest Colt Model 725s), but they also have 10-inch barrels with GAU-5/XM177-style flash-hiders. They were most likely custom-assembled for the film from the parts of various AR-model rifles. It should be noted that similar rifles can be seen in Black Hawk Down, and Bapty & Co. supplied the weapons for both this film and that one.

Besides their unusual combination of features, the mercenaries' CAR-15s also feature camouflage paint and accessories such as Surefire 660 weaponlights and Aimpoint CompM2 red dot sights. Near the end of the film, Archer uses one after killing its owner, buying time for Solomon and Dia to escape before succumbing to his wound.

No.  He grabs a small pack and some basic supplies, and maybe a satellite phone (I forget if he had it or stole it).  No weapons or ammo.

When he kills the mercenaries as Solomon is digging up the diamond, he grabs one of their carbines, stuffs a couple of mags in his cargo pocket, and takes off.

Bump because these things are awesome. Help an ignorant dude out here, what's the best way to put an Aimpoint PRO or something similar on a fixed carry handle? I have to assume there's something better than slapping a picatinny rail section up there, but I'm down to do so if that's the way.

I absolutely love that rifle setup. It is not the most practical or high speed setup out there but it clearly has all you need to get some work done with it. I wish I would have bought an a1 stripped upper last year when I had the chance for cheap. I would totally build this setup.
