Not related, but it is a semi 733 clone.
It’s on a Aero Precision lower I stamped for a MK18 build.
I have a PSA M16A2 lower that I need to Form1, but I keep getting distracted and buying other stuff.

There are some beautiful rifles in here fellas. Love this set up, nice work.

By the way, did they ever make bayonets for the CAR-15?
Guess it wouldn’t make sense, seeing how short a distance the birdcage/lug are. Never mind.

I’ve seen custom cut down bayonets for short barrels, but they’ve never been commercially available AFAIK.

I’ll have to look into that. Any links?

I’m sure there’s a tutorial on how to do that. That handle must look a little funky though.

A Belgian pattern FAL bayonet will fit over a standard 22mm NATO flash hider.

You just have to have a step/shoulder in the right spot for the latch to butt up against.

Got any links about this? I’d like to know more.

We make a bayonet lug for Mossberg 500 shotguns that takes the FN pattern bayonet. And this would be a similar concept.

https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/91277/nds-bayo_2_JPG-1372481.jpg

Basically, in order to fit on an AR you need a flash hider that give you a step/shoulder at 1.5" from the front of the FSB.

The back of the bayonet stops on the front of FSB and the latch snaps down behind the step on the back of the muzzle device.

Without the notch, though, the bayonet is free to rotate.  It would also be ideal to use a muzzle device that uses flash vents similar to a FAL's in configuration, to match the bayonet.

The South Africans did make a modified version for use with their Galil, although they didn't make many and didn't use them for much more than ceremonial stuff.

The other socket bayonet to consider is the one for the L85, which has a more conventionally-shaped blade.

@Packman

I built it:

C7 Upper from Brownells
Rear sight parts from Brownells
11.5" 1:9 chrome lined lightweight barrel assembly from J&T Distributing (Double Star)
Toolcraft Bolt carrier assembly
Delta ring and spring were spares.

ETA:

I think I got the 6 hole handguards from M&A Parts.

I did one set at a PD, but just ended up using one of the old dried out ink pads from the office to roll my own. I rolled my own for two Form 1s, and made a .pdf template to just print all the shit on the cards.

Thanks for the breakdown.

I'm more interested in going for an early-ish 733 "Heat" clone, and liked the idea of getting the upper as light as possible, so went with their C7 upper and lite barrel option.

C7 11.5 Commando Lite Hammer Forged Upper

ETA: also picked up a two position receiver extension and polymer stock from Retrorifles. They have the aluminum in stock, but 200+ seemed a bit over the top since it won't be going on a clone correct lower.

Can’t argue with that logic.

I’m trying to figure out which mount to use, I like the look of the Smith Enterprises rail but I’d like to find a good one for a little less money.

I don’t want to go with chinesium, but something in the $75 range area would be great.

Anyone got a lead or know where to find a decent pencil barrel, carbine gas, with a fixed FSB .625 journal? All I am seeing is Delton at the moment and am unsure about a semi serious rifle with their barrel at this moment.

Del-Ton barrels are fine, but have a .750 gas journal, even on their lightweight ones. Looks off on a retro gun.

Pencils are tough lately. Watch the EE and Gunbroker, they'll pop up from time to time but you've got to move when you see them.

No, they're definitely not. You can still backorder them through SWFA.

You can get the longer (extended) ones via special order at Brownells as well.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

What about Spike's tactical lightweight CHF barrels? Or is it only being made in mid length gas?

I need to find a mount that  you don't have to loctite in place.  I use irons most of the time, switching to a dot primarily to stay in practice with it once in a while. The problem is most of them are made in China and are not made to be taken off and put back on frequently.
