Few hours later Pelosi announces a formal impeachment inquiry on Trump, probably retaliation for EPA (Gavin Newsom is Pelosi's nephew) |

I'll just add that Lawfareblog.com and the Brookings folks have been pushing this since it wasn't even a thing. Today, Wittes et-al puts out an article which is a guideline on how to proceed. https://www.lawfareblog.com/so-you-want-impeach-president
Now, he and the ole IC crew over there have done this before and we've seen the Dems fall on their face executing it and the Republicans in the House outmaneuver them to some degree with simple facts and reality. But the sudden and urgent focus on impeachment raises an important question: What should the House impeach President Trump for? If the House is no longer considering whether to impeach Trump and has really decided to move forward, it needs to think about what articles of impeachment should—and should not—contain. View Quote ...The first is obstruction of justice and abuse of law enforcement institutions and personnel...
...the second involves his attempts to leverage the power of the presidency to cause investigation and prosecution of political opponents... ...The third broad area Congress should focus on is the abuse of the president’s foreign policy authorities and misuse of congressionally appropriated money to induce a foreign head of state to violate the civil liberties of U.S. persons and interfere in a presidential election... ...The fourth area for Congress to focus on in considering impeachment is the president’s efforts to obstruct or impede congressional investigations... ...A final area Congress should examine is Trump’s lying to the American public... View Quote But, as I said, this is to completely distract from their wrong doing and to completely take the air out of the room when the FISA IG report comes out soon...and any DOJ charges that actually come to fruition from it (if Barr has any balls but I doubt it as he's the king of IC lawyers). |

Today Nancy Pelosi made an announcement with forethought, optical planning, teleprompter script, and a presentation intended to look serious. But what she announced was simply a continuation of the status quo wrapped up in newly packaged lingo.
Pelosi stated she was herewith announcing an “official impeachment inquiry“. Everything remains ‘as is’, albeit with enhanced optics and new titles for the narrative engineers. View Quote |

As it has been pointed out to me in prior threads, SCOTUS has already ruled that a president can't be impeached because he did something bad. It must be criminal and all proper legal requirements must be upheld. Spying without a warrant = not proper. In any case, they are still spying on Trump. Nobody has seen the whistleblower's report or statements. The whistleblower reportedly wasn't present during the conversation which means Trump was probably unmasked at a later time. The whistleblower is reported to be a democrat party operative. The democrats are already moving the goal posts. Yesterday there was a quid pro quo. Today if Trump just made a request it is impeacheable. The democrats apparently don't care that Trump is releasing the transcript. I think the Republicans should release a list of all the people and the questions for an impeachment hearing, then have every Republican in the House pledge to vote for impeachment.
The Democrats would bark, but wouldn't bite. |

I am surprised by the 100 - 0 vote in the Senate to release the actual whistleblower complaint.
It was an “unanimous consent" vote but no one raised any objections. The Senate unanimously passed a nonbinding resolution Tuesday calling for the whistleblower complaint related to President Trump's communications with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to be released to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees.
The resolution was hotlined, meaning that it bypassed regular Senate procedures such as floor debates and went straight to a vote where it was passed by unanimous consent. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) asked to pass it, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kent.) did not object, arguing that he's through with all the speculation and just wants the facts.
