Better to have it and not need it...
But there's always a work around.

Put your thumb there after a mag dump or three.

I used to like the forward assist until I got into suppressors.

I tried doing some left hand shooting and drills and that thing just functions as an exhaust pointed directly at your face. Blowback coming from the chamber itself is bad enough.

Figure I’d rather just rack the action or use my thumb as an assist, rather than force a bad round into the chamber or force a round into a chamber full of debris.

Too bad there’s not something you can wear on your hand that protects it from things like heat.

Oh wait, people start accusing you of being a flat-range LARPer if you wear those…

My first "non forward assist" so far I don't miss it. All my serious rifles have FA's tho.

I'd rather have it and not need it.  I think I've used one a couple of times.
And I don't see how it being there could have any negatives.  Maybe an ounce more weight, but I don't care about that.

Is there a more 9mm vs 45 topic than a forward assist vs a slick side ?

Instead of a quick tap to insure the bolt slid home they are are insisting that if its there you’ll pound the maul on a double feed and wedge the bolt fast so the while rifle is locked up tight.

The FA is great if the thing gets some grit in it or a cold rifle sticks up a bit, or you don't want the sound of a full rack/slam and you need the round in there.  Used it a couple times for exactly that purpose.  All you have to do is not be an idiot and just beat the thing like a Russian cosmonaut in Armageddon for every malfunction.

Pat Rogers posted once that he saw 750,000 rounds fired annually and the FA locked up the gun three times a year. So 1 in 250,000. Which is not insignificant.

Oh look. I can close a bolt with no round in the chamber with a thumb. Is that really the condition I would use it in?

I've never used it.  If a round is out of battery, no way am I trying to shove it deeper.

But the only battles I fight are with paper, so

Everyone opting for the forward assist has an adjustable gas block on their rifle right?

Back up irons as well?

Need it and not have it and all that.

FWD ASSIST IS USELESS, I DON'T LIKE IT AND NEITHER SHOULD ANYONE ELSE!

Why do I keep hanging around here?

I've used the forward assist under fire in adverse conditions and it got the gun up. Why? Because I observed the chamber before engaging the forward assist.

TRB should be taught as Observe Tap Rack Bang.

I'll keep my forward assist and and my quad rails.

I'm surprised there are not more uppers without forward assist available.  I know there are options, but would think there would be more.

And don't look for a complete upper  assembled on one.  I don't remember ever seeing a flyer or email ad that had a complete upper with no forward assist.

Then don't shoot guns. All guns can fail, in many different ways. We have no idea what the condition of those guns was, what ammo they were shooting, the condition of the ammo they were shooting, what modifications had been made to the gun, nothing. It's an anecdote, nothing more.

If anything, 3 failures in 750,000 rounds observed by an expert tells me it's zero problem.

I'm a huge fan of mlok but can ABSOLUTELY see the value in quad rails.

The drop tests do not lie.

Interesting side note that rail in the OP has MLOK on the side, but a continuous rail on top.

I've been skeptical of mlok with IR Lasers that need to hold zero and happened to pick up a Geissele PARTIAL quad rail with mlok sides, but where the last inch or so is quad rail.  I'm 99% sure I'll replace the V7 with the Geissele.
