Looking at the chamber will only slow down the potential for getting the gun working as quickly as possible. Please don’t teach this objectively inefficient process to people. |

Well I watched Stoner talk about what he called the “Wheeler Button” and even he said he didn’t know if it was used much or worth adding or not. He explained why it was added but again, said he didn’t know if it helped or not.
I will say I have used it before. Often to close the bolt after a press check, but also in dusty conditions where my buffer tube became fowled and didn’t allow for full closure of the bolt. Of course Stoner said this could be fixed by just breaking down the rifle and fixing the problem but when you are SP’ing out the gate is not the time for breaking apart weapons. I have modified my opinion somewhat on this matter but have not fully changed it. I will still be thankful to have one on my rifles but will not chastise as much those who don’t anymore. |

That's what this thread is missing, the press check Rube Goldberg style: To avoid ever using the forward assist, one should not the position if the top round on the mag, insert mag, rack, remove mag, not different position of top round to confirm chambering, re-insert, push forward on notch bolt carrier through ejection port with finger. This was a popular one for a while. |

I don't know about useless but I personally don't have any use for them.
If it won't fire, I just pull the bolt back and let her go again. If it still won't fire, then I lock the bolt back and investigate the problem. Using a FA necessarily means you assume the problem is not something that will be made worse by using the FA. Or you judge the time savings of using the FA worth the risk of making the problem worse. I'm not a soldier so I can't really give an informed opinion of that risk. |

Eugene stoner's design didn't include an adjustable stock, mlok, pic rail, G triggers, enhanced bcgs, ambi controls, fast twist rifling, or suppressor mounts.
So, you shouldn't use those either. As Eugene intended!
