IIRC that one was a 9-something?  7s are no joke, but they’re a long way from 9.

That was huge and I'm far away in Tokyo, lost a few plates and glasses. The wife needs to fix her wall of books that I always tell her needs to be supported

My dogs and birds gave me 15 seconds warning, so I could save some things in the kitchen. Sometimes it sucks living on the 8th floor.

Started with side to side, then stopped, then up and down then the swaying like on the ocean.

Aftershocks expected, on the news they are saying this is a relief quake from 2011.

Stay safe over there.  Buddy is in Saitama, said this one was a beast but he didn't lose anything.  Really hoping there's minimal damage and there aren't more to come.

I'd like to experience a quake, a small one. I'm just curious what it's like to see everything shake. I've been offshore in a boat 87 billion times but that's nothing in comparison

It was certainly a reminder of 2011. Time to check the emergency supplies and bug-out bags.

I've lived in Japan before.   Earthquakes are not fun.  I get that you want to know what they are like, but I say again:  They are not fun. At all.

Thank you. It's not a problem in Tokyo just a big shake, on the news there are no reports of damage so far just a 1m tsunami for parts of the coast. But I do appreciate the offer.

Felt a small one in Az 12-15yrs ago. Thought it was me at first, thought I was having some kind of "event". Everything felt like it was rolling. Then I noticed the window shades were moving, looked in the backyard and the water in the pool was sloshing around pretty good.
Hope everyone over there is Ok!

We experienced one in Northern Virginia probably a decade or so ago.  I was on the 8th floor of the Microsoft building and like you, I thought it was me at first.  Then my "oh shit, we've got 8 flights of stairs to descend" instinct kicked in and I start hustling to the stairwell with my team.

Definitely not something I would want to do more than once especially in a tall concrete building.

When the ground moves, no matter how slight, it is an odd feeling. I've never experienced a strong destructive quake but the few small ones I've felt were significant enough to cause me some concern. One in particular was while camping in Mt. Ranier N.P., maybe sleeping on the ground added to the affect enough for me to say I don't care to experience that again.

You guys want a fun experience be waling down the hall of a 22 floor apartment in Caracas Venezuela and then get pushed into one wall and then the opposite one.
I was 13 at the time and all i could think about it probably how shitty the building was built and that it was going to come down on us for the entire 10min trip down the stairs.

Sit on an office chair or lay on a bed and have someone shake the goddamn out of it.

That's what a mild quake feels like.

Small ones are freaky but no big deal. It feels like a bump, house creaks, lights swing. Bigger ones are fucking scary. Its like you're on a carnival ride and you don't know whats going to happen. Big or small, there's something in the Lizard part of the brain that tells you its bad and it triggers the "fight or flight" mechanism.

I believe so, now that you mention it.  In fact, IIRC that was one of the first confirmed fatals.

90 seconds to sheer terror.  There’s not a damn thing you can do until the ground stops swimming beneath your feet.  The natural gas fires started almost immediately and burned for days.  At night, the entire LA Basin was lit by firelight.  Aftershocks went on for months, and some big ones too.  I was close to the initial epicenter.  I really, truly thought that was it for me.

1994, holy shit.  Where has the time gone.
