Leaving the vet right now. They didn't see any bacteria in the pee sample, but they want another on Monday. Ugh. In the meantime they gave her an injection for the pain and some pills to get her through the weekend.

The cat is only 5 years old and has been very healthy before this and earlier this year.

Fire the vet. Go to another. Monday isn't acceptable for a cat with pee problems. My bet is on crystals in the urine. Incredibly painful, potentially lethal and quickly too. Take her to a better vet RFN.

Female cat who's had a UTI before this past January. I took her to the vet two weeks ago where they have her a shot for the pain and have some antibiotics which just ran out yesterday. Last night she goes on a rampage and pees in the kitchen leaving a long trail. Peed on some Christmas ornament paper. Peed on a foam chair used by our boy. Led on my side of the bed and my pillow. At the vet now where she peed blood right on the examination table.

Do I have any realistic options here? What would the hive do? She's been a good cat up to this point.

I can think of ONE realistic option...

Take him/her to the Chinese food market.
Use funds to get your carpets clean.

Buy a dog.

Profit.

Lead pill placed behind the right or left ear works wonders. Guaranteed to never pee again.

The cat is a piece of property but it's also OP's responsibility to take care of.  The cat is sick, therefor he must take him to the vet.  Don't be obtuse.

I don't log in much these days. But there's a lot of SICK MOTHERFUCKERS in this thread.
To all of those advocating the OP shoot his cat.
Maybe it would be nice fitting if someone does the same to you, next time you get sick!.

No I'm not a big cat lover, but I have one now.

I'm a dog person. I've owned Dobermans for the last 35 years.

My Daughter left me a cat when she moved out. I've had him for 12-13 years now.
My Dobe died during that time span.
In that time I've spent a couple thousand dollars on Vet bills.
Urinary infection, then he couldn't shit right.

He gets special food. Around $46.00 for 24 cans of food. Just picked up another case today. Plus I have to add Lactose to his food.
Pain in the ass for sure. But I do it.
He's part of the family now.
You hurt my Cat, I'll hurt you.

Not an animal rights activist. I've hunted all my life. I'll shoot any stray cat I see in the woods.
My cat has never been outside of the house. Except in a carrier to the vet.
No he doesn't piss anywhere but his litter box.

You assholes would be up in arms if someone were to suggest the OP shoot his DOG.

Get a grip on life.
But this is GD, so that's out of the question

Go to another vet ASAP, even if you have to pay emergency fees. Would you want to hang around all weekend if you were pissing blood? She is in pain. Take care of her! And never come to GD for pet advice again. Sick fucking responses on this thread. Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves, but you won't be.

I had a cat that started peeing in places outside the litter box or missing the box. A few weeks later I had to put him down. Vet said most likely cancer. It's generally a pretty bad sign.

Not being a "cat person" I don't understand this litter box thing I hear about.

If you live on Manhattan, and can't let your cat outside, ...maybe.  But why do people tolerate cats pissing and shitting in the house?

I wouldn't put in a sandbox so my dogs can dump inside, why do people treat cats different?

These are symptoms of a UTI likely caused by crystals in the urine. It's incredibly painful and can quickly cause the cat to get "blocked", that is, to develop a mucus plug that stops it from being able to pee at all. It's a horrible death. If you can't help a cat with vet care, the proper thing to do is to kill it, not throw it outside while it's sick and in pain and likely to die horribly.

Ours was really high strung and it was behavioral but she was also really old.  Prozac helped for a while but ultimately we simply couldn't live with it (who could).

Yep, kitteh needs more veterinary attention.

Cats can develop crystals and UTIs by not drinking enough water, maybe you should get a fountain for him/her?

We got one of these (below) and it pretty much fixed our one cat's reluctance to drink water:

PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain

Ours was <$50 and well worth it!

What's with all the cat hate?

I'm not really a cat person but I took in a stray for a couple years. He wasn't an asshole. In fact he seemed pretty damn grateful for a cushy life. It's kind of shocking how many people advocate killing it rather than giving it a fighting chance.
I'll say I was way more sad about losing that cat than I ever thought I would be.

Believe it or not, I was completely serious. My cat was on  10mg a day for a while, and it actually worked for a couple years.

Edit: Crystal issue will need to be solved first.

A cat that has urinated elsewhere in the house will typically do it again and again and again.

We had a cat that was locked out of the laundry room one night (that's where the litter box is) so she pissed on the carpet in the family room.  We cleaned it once we found it but to no avail.  She kept going back to the spot to urinate AND shit.

Locked her in the laundry room for about two months to retrain her and she did great for a week or so and then went back to the same area on the carpet.

Cat was gone.  You CANNOT get the smell of cat urine out of carpet.  We tried everything.

She gave him a Crystalloid solution subcutaneously a few times a week due to kidney disease which started with him peeing out of the litter box.

It is a common treatment in various species with kidney disease/dehydration and similar issues.

OP I hope you find out what's wrong with your cat, I seriously do. I understand you want to address it's needs. I apologize for being insensitive.

I just want to add, and again this is not directed at the OP, but towards cat people in general. I've never owned a cat, I've been a dog person my entire life, but I've been around many cat owners and my take on cat owners are this. First of all, cats are assholes, they generally don't care about humans, they typically offer nothing to the owner, it boils down to cat people just like having "something" to feed and take care of even if that means human getting nothing in return.  Dogs are interactive,  they aim to please their owners, cats don't give a shit. I stand by my comment that cat people are weird.

I have a cat doing some of that now.
She will go just outside of the box most of the time.
Sometime she will go in the box.

This started when the wife brought in a new male cat
The new cat likes to pick on the other three cats

We put down some of the pet pads next to the box, seems to help.
