hey I'm chinese-american and I hate their unimaginative minds too.
Don't worry, their engines won't last, they can copy all they want but reliability is in the metallurgy.
They can't even copy reliable airline engines correctly.

WZ-10 chopper trumps US counterpart in maneuverability

China's newly unveiled attack helicopter, the WZ-10, can functionally perform as well as America's AH-64 Apache ,and with better maneuverability than the latter, making it more suitable for China's air defense, a Party delegate at the ongoing 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China told China.org.cn in an exclusive interview yesterday in Beijing.

Lin Zuoming, president of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), said that the WZ-10, which officially conducted low-altitude adaptive flying exercises at its debut at the Zhuhai Airshow one day before, has no big differences with the AH-64 Apache except for its takeoff weight. The WZ-10's takeoff weight is about six tons, four tons lighter than the AH-64.

In spite of lighter takeoff weight or bomb load, the WZ-10 has better maneuverability and, thus is more suitable for protecting China's complicated topography, which features a lot of hills and mountainous areas, Lin said. He noted that the WZ-10, nicknamed "Thunderbolt" meets world class standards in every functional aspect.

As for the WZ-19 attack helicopter nicknamed "Black Hurricane" which debuted the same day, Lin said that it along with the WZ-10 is an important weapon for China's mechanized and informationized national defense system as well as for its land forces.

Lin added that the two helicopters are designed for enhancing China's firepower at different altitudes and taking control of the high altitude defense for the country's land forces.

I keep comparing those photos in the OP, I see 3 disticntly different aircraft. Obvious tail desings, and then subtle cock pit, body and exhaust difference.

Exactly, give them time. Right now the US is at the top of it's game, regarding technology and field experience. Give China a few years and conflicts in Africa and with her southeast Asian neighbors and see how they hone themselves.

Anyone else notice that the canopy configuration on that WZ-10 is really sub-optimal? Hell, in a couple of the pictures you can see the aircrew having to lean and crane their necks to see out the windows.

Situational awareness seems like a pretty damn imporant thing for a low-and-slow gunship.

They can theoretically engage helocopters. I don't know if it's ever actually been tried though.

That Jap bird, the Ninja, has a pretty interesting layout. Im kind of surprised where they have the optics pod mounted, as it seems like the Rotor would create issues (particularly if that thing has a laser designator on board). Doesn't look like its got a lot of hardpoint space for arms either.

We laugh now, but they are using real technology given to them by our companies, and our allies.

All they have to do is be close enough to good. They can produce the numbers, and the pilots if given a few more years, and overwhelm our technology advantage.

People need to hang for selling those engines and other defense systems.

This. They have a nearly unlimited budget to train and develop with. None of the Russian crap about 10 hours of stick time a year. They can afford to shoot the missiles, blow up tanks, burn the fuel nonstop until they are ready. Meanwhile we cut our forces to the bone. Zerg rush anyone?

The WZ-19 appears to be based on the Aerospatiale Dauphin, which the Chinese have been using for years. The WZ-10 appears to be a fairly conventional looking attack helicopter. If you give different groups of engineers the same specifications for an attack helicopter you shouldn't be to surprised if they come up with similar designs. That genre is pretty well understood in the aviation industry. All attack helicopters look the same.
