Do we really think China would use a balloon to spy on us geographically?

Quoted: So, your theory is that China is sending first strike nukes via balloon? I'm gonna have to see some proof of this... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Fox News is reporting it is carrying a heavy payload the size of two school buses. How much does a nuke weigh? Could it have 2 on board, one to drop and the other to detonate when it is at 150,000 ft? So, your theory is that China is sending first strike nukes via balloon? I'm gonna have to see some proof of this... Whether they are or not, it appears they certainly could have. |

There's a C40A heading around that way but not sure WTF that is doing since their navy cargo planes. Maybe just hauling around some GO looky-loos.

Chinese don’t take a dump without a plan. So, what’s behind this? There is a reason. I say test run.

Quoted: None of course. The PGU ammo is pretty hot stuff and at that altitude it will have a lot of smash a lot further out. A Viper can go that high. The problem is, if the motor quits you loose ECS and eventually cabin pressure. Add to that, no pressure suit. The pilots all said they wouldn’t want to stay that high very long. I work near the airport in STL and haven't heard any jets scrambling yet.

DIXIE16 over in Kansas just gained a lot of altitude. Could be wanting to go take a look two or heading up to refuel some little fellas.

Anyone here really believe we're being told the truth about this ? Come on man!

They're going to set up a shootdown with a high fast flier coming out of the SW, cannon fire going NW. Rounds estimated to impact ground in East St Louis. Estimated damage to civilian property: indeterminant.

We are being told NOT to shoot it down. (china tells this admin what to do) 2. We are allowing them to gather intel under the guise of "the situation is unfolding" sort of slow to response giving them the most time possible. |

How long before it descends enough for some dude in a Cessna 172 or even better a Cub to go take it out?

Maybe it's a trap.
China wants us to shoot it down and then they'll use an anti satellite missile on one of our recon birds over China in protest. A precedent that reconnaissance at ANY altitude over China will not be tolerated by China. "You did it first, USA." |

Spy balloon doesn't sound like a viable system. At the mercy of the winds as far as where it goes and when. Clearly not stealthy. Not sure what this is accomplishing.

COBRA47's in an orbit now. CNV4926 just passing through the area too. DIXIE16 looks to be heading that way too.

What kind of technology does one need to listen to mil/civil air traffic? An SDR receiver or any scanner that covers 118-136 and 225-400 with AM. Most cover 118-136. Most of the newer ones do both. I have a TACO 225-400 antenna up at about 25' and a DPD Productions log periodic broadband. I'm using an Airspy R2 SDR, RSP DUO dual receiver SDR and a BCD786XLT among others. |
