I carried one for years. A Mossberg 590. Other than shooting birds and locks there is really nothing they do better than an AR. They are easy to short stroke under stress. Easy to miss with, contrary to popular belief. They have a low capacity and are slow as shit to reload. Sure they deal some damage but overall they suck. Not to mention the black and blue shoulders from firing 100 plus slugs a day in training.

But…because I am an old(not too old) and sentimental bastard I think I am going to get a 590. Anyway, it will be cool to have one that doesn’t rattle like a steam engine.

ETA: don’t get too mad, I know I am pushing buttons. But mostly I really do mean it. That doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome.

Semi then?
A 1301 or similar with an extended mag is lot of ‘fuck you’ in close quarters.
A supplement to the guys with AR’s or whatever, but a useful tool I’d think.

If you’re a bird ALL shotguns are combat.

I think I'd rather be in a trench up against a rifle than my Vepr 12. That thing is devastating.

Chances that I'll be in that situation? Basically none so I'll stick to blasting clays with it.

They fly under the radar of the media and gun hating politicians. If you were to use one to defend your home it won't look like your some military wannabe terrorist (according to the media)

Any shotgun with a blade attached to it is cool.

It makes people behave.

Had a guy on my team carry one in a scabbard on his back on the streets of Iraq circa 2009. He got more respect than the guys with an M4. There's some cultural fear of it.

Oh undoubtedly better for the first 7 or 8 rounds or whatever their capacity.

But I had a 590…often with a bayonet.

I had a chance to get a 1301 locally for a steal.  I delayed/debated and missed out.  Any other type of gun and I'd have still been kicking myself but I just don't need another slightly better shotgun than my fn slp to also sit and serve no purpose.

Short stroking is eliminated with a proven semiautomatic design, but everything else is correct.

A shotgun is good for a self defense situation where you are facing a limited number of attackers, at short range (but not too short because shotguns are long), and are not wearing body armor. In that situation I'd say they are equal to or perhaps superior to a rifle. In every other situation...nope.

I still want an A300 for the cool factor though.

I have an AOW that I think is a blast. It’s a hoot to shoot and gives me a grin every time I pull it out. Wouldn’t hesitate to pull it out for self defense. However. I’d prefer a few other options first. But I would know it would get the job done.

Combat shotguns are effective.  They may not be my number 1 choice, but they can be used effectively by someone properly trained.

Of course, internet cool guys would never want to be seen without an sbr in whatever the newest paint/ furniture color is.

https://resources.mossberg.com/journal/the-mighty-590a1

I know Jeremy personally, he is a solid dude.  I would take Jeremy with a shotgun in a gun fight over internet cool guys with a fancy camo sbr.
