Post above says dude is a Japanese car aficionado, so he was riding in his g/f's car and he shot out the window and killed the kid. That's how she gets charged as an accomplice she was driving.

He probably was, just pointing out we don't know for sure yet. If we take my SO's vehicles I'm the one driving 87% of the time.
I was just goofing around. There's no way to guess what happened based on the little information we have

It was reported that the mother of the kid flipped off the car the shooter was in. There was also supposedly some cutting off by abrupt lane changes and brake checking going on.

Typical SoCal commuter jackassery on the freeway, but it doesn't usually lead to a shooting.

My prediction the female is going to claim she was scared of the guy (probably a battered partner) and that's why she didn't report it, she will turn on him and get some type of deal for a lesser sentence for her testimony against him. All gun owners will be further demonized.

I was hoping they’d catch up with the shooter in this case.

If proven guilty, I hope they hang from the highest tree.

I think I posted here that I pulled out of a driveway to turn right and a woman in side road to my right accelerate quickly in front of me to turn left-the opposite direction I was going. I looked at her in surprise, I don't think I honked, and she flipped me off. I was just surprised and if not for arfcom would have forgotten about it. But if I was some angry guy who just found out his wife left him or he had cancer the middle finger girl would have had a tough time of it. There was a road rage shooting about a mile from there a couple of years ago so it's not like "that doesn't happen around here."

This weekend I took my kids in my wife's car to visit relatives and when I saw a couple of Harleys coming, so I decided to quickly pass a tractor trailer that was slowing up a big hill. I didn't cut off the bikes or slow them down, but I sure stomped on it and got into the passing lane when I saw them way behind me because I didn't want to get stuck behind them.

I pulled back over and a little while later when the motorcycles passed me I saw one guy had colors from an outlaw motorcycle gang on his vest. oops

Evil people.

It appears these road rage shootings are all the rage these days. I take great care not to engage in this type of behavior, would even more so if had a kid in the car with me.

Infuriating, and sad, situation.

You never know when it'll happen to you. I was exiting a freeway last week and a Chrysler 300 on the access road blows right through the Yield sign, and was less than a foot from hitting my truck. I locked up the break to avoid the collision, didn't honk because I had my 2 kids the their car seats, and the guy still flips me off and break-checks me.

There was absolutely nothing that I could have done differently, and somehow this guy still took it as a sign of disrespect.

I figured that to be the case, in this case (and in all the cases of road rage I hear about).   Road rage almost always takes two to tango.  That doesn't make it right to shoot someone over it, any more than it is right to rob someone at an ATM in the bad part of town at 11:00 pm at night.  But, it is avoidable.

I drive a lot these days, traveling, and I encounter a situation I could easily turn into a road rage incident, if I wanted to, at least once a day.  I don't.

I saw the mother speaking at the media circus when it happened.  I could tell after just a few comments that she undoubtedly was involved in escalating the situation.

As you say, no way in hell does this warrant a shooting.  I’m also not blaming her for the inappropriate response on the part of the offended driver.  I’ve flipped off and been flipped off plenty and no shooting ever took place.

It’s just a shame all involved couldn’t have just been nice to each other.

I can't imagine something like this happening to my boys.  I'm not blaming the parent but I imagine the sequence of events leading up to bang bang bang probably left ample opportunity to swallow one's pride and move on with life.  Imagine thinking to yourself "I can't let this fucker get the last word" right before a slug rips through your kid's car seat.  Keep your cool out there no matter how right you think you are.

It's sad that defensive driving doesn't just apply to watching for idiots on their phone.

UH... pretty sure once you commit a felony(shooting at an occupied vehicle...) you are potentially liable 2nd degree murder for the fallout if someone gets killed. Regardless of if you intended to hurt someone.
Like if I rob a liquor store and the clerk pulls a gun, I dropkick the gun kung fu style and it lands on ground and randomly goes off hitting and kill the bum who is simply trying to buy his bottle of MD2020, IM liable for the death, I was committing a felony(robbery), and someone died during that felony. Same if the getaway driver from felony runs over a nun in a crosswalk because roads were slippery they didn't intend to run them over, BUT they were committing a felony(aiding and abetting the robbery) so they are guilt of 2nd degree murder.

Now if someone says "im going to go shoot that guy", and then does that is 1st degree (IE set out to cause death and did)/

There are certainly people from every group that do it. But for the most part, driving on a "nice side" of town is very different than in poorer areas.

Everyone help me out here...
I don't think anyone here loves them (or not many and not vocally), I think it is often the choice of car that urban yutes happen to like to steal or (intelligibility) use their own in committing drive bys, hit and runs and other such crimes in...

I think he was trying to guess the car to see if it fit the Do Dirt Stereotype. Kinda like the Carson/Karmack.gif thing we got going.

In St. Louis, were I used to live it was always a Black or darker colored 300 or Magnum that witnesses reported seeing fleeing the crime or area of said crime.

I could be wrong though.

There is 2 sides to every story, stay tuned to see what happens next. I bet the other driver did something to exacerbate or provoke them, who knows, have to wait for further investigation.

Here in Socal, I've had people give me the finger, and throw stuff at my vehicle. I was just driving down the street minding my own business, really. When I see someone tailgating, flicking their high-beams at me, whenever I can, I pull over and let the other driver pass, it is better that the be in front of me where I can see them, than for them to be behind me.

Years ago I had a petite, unassuming looking woman, driving a generic 4 door sedan actively try to run my truck (lifted and trail armored) off the road because I wasn't accelerating fast enough getting on the freeway (was trying, it is just old/slow) for her liking so she passed me, tried to change lanes into the side of my truck, repeatedly brake checked me. If I hadn't pulled onto the shoulder and stopped I am pretty sure she would have rammed my truck.

I am not saying that it was the case here but at what point does someone pulling shit like that become use of deadly force in a way? I mean if she had done that and I hadn't reacted, she may very well had hit my truck and caused me to crash or roll my truck.

I was thinking that too. But based off the pictures of the scene, it looks like there is a bullet hole to the left of the license plate, and it struck the kid in the rear drive side seat.

My guess is that he fired from the driver seat, as the victims car was in front and slightly off to the left of him.

Most of us have had a similar experience with road rage and moronic people doing life threatening things. Still I'm guessing there was that little voice in the back of your head which kept you from doing what this guy did.

I know when I think of my worst experience I sure as hell wanted to do a mag dump into the side of some D-Bags Tahoe as he was trying to run me off the road but I still knew better. Even at my worst I wouldn't let myself do something so potentially life altering.

I'd bet money the mother had a huge hand to play in this, but make no mistake she'll be paying for this for the rest of her life.
