I bought my first pair as an adult and I'd forgotten how much I love em.

So what is Arfcom's opinion? Yay or nay? Like em or hate em?

Wore them for years. Now its hiking boots for the ankle support, although I keep a pair to wear on the rare occasions a suit is called for.

Depends. But I'm a fan.

They really are great if you find a seller/place/fitting guy that can properly fit you. This is for people that may not like them.

There are many people that dislike them because they were never properly fitted. A good quality boot that fits is awesome. Like slipping on a glove that conforms to your feet.

Basically I like them. But I recommend anyone new to them that they simply can't grab a size 10 or 11 or whatever off the shelf like a tennis shoe and be happy.

My dad used to custom order his because of the width of his foot, and with a smaller diameter top because they were more form fitting to his calves.

Sucks that a lot of once great brands were bought out years ago. It's hard to find the quality you used to be able to.

I wear Justin's when I wear them. They usually fit me well.

No ankle support is a no-go for me, my ankles got wrecked fairly early and I need the extra support lace-up boots give me.

I went with Double H. They seem to have a good rep and I am not going nuts on my first pair. I bought a 11.5 off the rack and so far they feel good.

I really loved my Ariats, but after 8 years the cheap Chinese boots are worn out. Been thinking about a new pair, but havent decided which brand I want to go with. Selection is also limited in NH beyond Justins and random Ariats, so that makes it hard too. I got my Ariats at a western store in Nebraska, and they had a wall of cowboy boots to choose from.

No, I think you may have misunderstood me.

I'm not saying you have to have custom made boots.

I'm saying many people that buy them simply grab a size off the shelf and they may not fit properly. A lot of first timers don't have knowledge to know how they are supposed to fit.

It's quite possible that those you bought just so happen to fit you perfectly.

I tend to go with a size bigger which goes with all my shoes. I will say it takes some getting used to if you haven't worn them for a long time.....BUT I love them so far.

Go to eBay. Buy a pair of vintage boots. Look for Tony Lama El Rey or the San Antonio made Lucchese boots.

If you have arch problems, western boots could be your answer. Used to wear 10 1/2 and my arches dropped and I wear 11 1/2 now. They have great arch support because of the shape of the last...the sole.

Buy all my boots from Heritage Boots out of Austin. My most comfortable ones are bull shark uppers. Like wearing slippers.

Used to wear Justins, but switched to Ariat paddock boots when I changed from riding stock seat to the hunter/jumpers.

The Ariats of today are not the Ariats of the '90s.

Yay. I have a pair of Ariat Roughstocks. Theyre looking pretty rough though

. I have some Ariat ground breakers, they're just regular boots, but wear them WAY more.

I've got a pair of blown out Ariats that I use for driving to and from work. They're comfortable as hell, but I prefer lace ups for daily long term wear.
