Oroville Update Phase II 15 Nov |
|
Someone earlier asked my thoughts on the future of the dam.
1. I think the dam in it's pre super damaged state would of been fine had they not filled it to the brim right before a mega storm. 2. If they do 1. again they will have problems no matter what. but I believe there are MANY reasons that won't happen again for generations at least. I think this dam will be very boring for decades at this point. If enough people want me to go check it out, I will. PF |

@ProFryan , Thanks for starting this topic, I have read every page!
It sure was scary in the beginning, my wife would have me check for updates every morning. Amazing the amount of work that was done. Again, Thank You! |

That siren and evacuation.
That was something. I hope to never be a part of something so crazy. I would of been the first person to get wet. Oroville spillway collapse day 3 video 11 evacuation! |

Oroville Spillways Phase 2 Update November 17, 2017 |

http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/7697878-181/oroville-dams-new-spillway-already?artslide=0 From this thread https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Remember-Dampocalypse-Cracks-in-new-spillway/5-2056037/?r=-1&page=1&anc=69365156#i69365156 View Quote Sounds like it's in the newly poured structural concrete sections, rather than the RCC or upper bit that's to be replaced next year anyway. That's not good, but they are trying to say that it is normal. Who's our concrete expert here to say cracking on surface of new, erosion hardened pre-stressed concrete is normal or not? I know they tore down a bridge abutment they had just built in construction because of "some small cracks", making the detour go on another month. I don't know if that's different concrete needed than what they are using on the dam for water to run over. However, cracks, and lack of patching of those cracks, in the original spillway is why this whole thing happened to start with. If it's serious, having Great Stuff Flex Seal poking out of cracks in a 1000 foot run of brand new concrete will be really silly. Sort of like the skyscrapers roped together in Idiocracy to keep them both standing. |
|
The cracks are vertical not horizontal like last time?
Vertical cracks seem like they would be worse? |

I Love the look on the crack fillers face;
"I'm not an engineer but I don't think this shit is 'gonna work." |

View Quote I was thinking ¼" cracks 6" or more into the slab from the amount of caulk the buy in the photo was pushing out, why didn't somebody get him a battery caulking gun? He's going to have one strong hand. |

State hasn’t paid a dime http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article189603719.html View Quote Do you really think the Moonbeam governor is going to postpone his train plans and welfare to keep his type in power, just so he can repair damage caused by his inept managers? We're goin got see more and more of this, from the fires to the dams, California has just been coasting on the things that were built when Americans lived and worked there. None of that stuff ever needs maintenance, and if it does, don't talk about it until it's a big enough issue to "need" Federal money to fix the 'unexpected emergency expense'. The wilfdfires - Gov't money coming in because CA has banned basic fire prevention procedures in place in every other state in the Union, including Oregon! The floods - Since trees aren't holding soil, we're going to have mudslides destroying infrastructure, boom, MORE Federal Dollars! Makes me happy that state income taxes can no longer be deducted from federal income taxes. Since their state isn't spending that tax wisely, they are making the government pay for it, while taking the government's cut of income tax. I'm sure many here are pissed, but maybe that will motivate people to reduce/remove their state income taxes. Propose video lottery and other money making things that are simple enough a .gov can run. |

Upper and lower spillway cams are back up. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but it seems that the lower cam was out whenever they were disassembling and moving components from the lower RCC plant.

Is it just my web service or is the only camera that's working, the one at the top of the spillway?
