It belongs in a museum!

There, got that out of the way.

Crystal Skull (2008, blech) was set in '57 with commies and aliens, this movie would be in the 60's.  All the others were based on popular adventure subjects of the day, first such thing that comes to mind from the 60's would be Vietnam or the Moon landing.  So I'm guessing that an artifact is discovered on the moon and Indy tracks it to Vietnam.  Maybe ends up back in India, they've got some really cool legends that people sometimes interpret as a memory of a high tech civilization destroyed in a nuclear war.

Or Indy's ageing slows thanks to that drink from the Holy Grail so that he's Ford's apparent age in the modern day.

This will either be a redemption or something catastrophic.

I'm hoping for the former, but past experience says it's probably going to be the latter.  "See, you just thought Crystal Skull was rock bottom.  No, no!  Out comes the dynamite.... we're blasting our way to China!"

Is he going to come in and "pass the torch" to a new character like he did in Star Wars?

That's the only way I see it working, he looked really rough in Star Wars.  2019?  I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make it that long.

He looked worse than rough.  I liked what they did with him, but they should have let him be his own age.

Maybe they kill him off in this one too.

Long lost son he never knew he had shows up to take over the exploring rolls. Indy becomes the same character Sean Connery played. The franchise goes on.

ETA: in this PC world it will be his daughter and not his son.

They already did it... It was called Tomb Raider.

Aliens are too weird for the Indiana Jones franchise, let's get back to something realistic like face melting ghosts pouring out of the ark of the covenant and immortality granted by a wooden cup.

I don't understand the part in red. I'm as big a Star Wars fan as the next guy and I thought that movie was horrible. It was just the same shit as before but with an even bigger Death Star. They even blew it up pretty much the same way.

Han Solo looked like shit and showed his age. A completely new story line set in the same universe would have been so much better than rehashing the same story with younger actors.

Disney did a soft-reboot with Star Wars and it kicked the shit out of Avatar in just 2 weeks at the box office, and got very high ratings all around.

Yeah, and the prequels were a gigantic departure from the old formula, and we seen how that turned out.

My wife refuses to allow The Temple of Doom into our house because of that scene with the heart.

Oh, interesting tidbit:  The nazi who fights Indy and gets chopped by the propeller is the same actor who played the thuggee that got crushed in the rock crusher.

Might have potential if they do it right. Ford will have to have a protege that is likable. Shia Lebarf will have to be left out. Also, they will have to stick to Old/New testament lore and leave out the aliens.
Finally, if it picks up where the last one left off the commies could have made excellent bad guys if done right.
