Back many years ago my first couple of centerfire pistols were Ruger Blackhawks . Still have them but don't shoot them much. Mostly shoot double actions.
The one recent single action purchase that is generally the one shot most is a 4" 44sp. Just a nice balance of size , weight and power . 44 sp is a great cartridge and easy to load for if you can get primers. Some folks like the slow , simple cadence of a single action , some folks are very aggravated by that slowness when compared to double actions. I believe I would advise most folks who don't have a bunch of pistols to spend their money in getting double actions first and then somewhere down the line getting the single action . Of course if you get a single action you really need a lever gun in the same caliber to go with it |

I bought a Cimarron on a whim when Gander was clearing out their icky guns. It was like 25% off, and I always kind of wanted a SAA but didn't really want to spend the $ on one.
It's a cool gun but I had to sent it back to get repaired. Waiting for it to come back as we speak. FYI Cimarron was the importer but the gun is actually a Pietta. If I could do it again I would just save for a ruger or used colt. |

Yes. It's a must have.
Get the Colt SAA if you can. (If Gen 3 perhaps avoid the non-removable bushing models) Super weapons and have increased in value over the years... |

I had a Ruger Vaquero in .357 that I regretted selling.
I picked up a 1960's era JP Sauer & Sohn Western Marshall in .45 LC a few years ago for $350. It appears to be very well made, and fun to shoot. |

Ruger blackhawk 357 4 5/8" barrel
New geometry frames and grips done by Ronnie Wells, he also did a bobbed hammer and different trigger & guard. RDW grip frames are amazing. Completely changed the feel of this pistol, it fits my hand and fires like a cap gun. Yes. Everyone needs a single action, or two or three. Attached File |
