I like most of those mentioned thus far, the rest I probably haven't watched.

But UHF is the best movie ever made.

I like many of those listed above, but could not agree with Waterworld.

The Big Lebowski is one of my all-time favorite movies.  My wife doesn't get it.

One I haven't seen mentioned is "A Midnight Clear".  It is a WWII movie set at the time of the Battle of the Bulge.  Saw it in the theater when it came out--I was in college and a history-buff friend took me.  I hadn't seen it advertised at the time and I don't know if it even ever made general release.  According to IMDB, it barely made $1.5 M with a budget of $5 M.

Great movie but when I saw it back in the 80s as a kid, it seemed depressing. I was used to comic Bill Murray

I don’t know enough about box office success on many of my favorites, so nothing really to add, but many mentioned here are among my favorites - especially The Thirteenth Warrior. I saw that one for the first time at Camp Doha, Kuwait. Never realized it was considered a bomb.

Interesting to see the the divided reaction to a movie like The Postman, but I guess I can see where the central theme is offensive to the “burn it all down” types.

I saw it on cable then went out and bought the DVD & soundtrack CD. I didn’t know that either. I seem to mostly watch comedy, sci fi or medieval/Conan types of films instead of horror, drama or romance generally

This. Jackson's farewell speech is maybe my favorite movie scene ever.
"In the Army of the Shenandoah, you are the First Brigade. In the Army of the Potomac, you were the First Brigade. In the Second Corps of this Army, you are the First Brigade. You ARE the First Brigade, in the affections of your General!  And I hope, by your future deeds and bearing, you will be handed down to posterity as the First Brigade, in this our Second War of Independence. Farewell!"

It is an awesome scene, and apparently depicted almost exactly as it occurred.

Wut?

I loved The Golden Compass too, even though I read the books first. Great series, good movie, and Dakota nailed the role of Lyra (and was adorable as hell doing it).

I haven't started the new series but I hope it's as good

Not too sure if flops but some of my favorite movies seems like no one ever heard of them

Clerks 1994
Mostly talking so alot of people just can't get into it ... 37 IN A ROW ??

Used Cars 1980
Classic Kurt Russel Jack Warden The black guy Frank McRae was so funny i literally was crying when the dog pissed on him

The Rivers Edge 1986
Kind of a strange teenage apathy trip movie I was like 15 when this came out so i was like how are they not calling the cops on their psycho friend.

But  Crispin Glover just fucking nails the part of the under appreciated tweaker. Also a big fan of Dennis Hopper Keanu Reeves is the main char.

Anyone else a fan of these movies ?

I'm currently watching The 13th Warrior, which is free on Hulu. I think it is ranked as the number one box office flop of all time. I love it. I've probably watched it a half a dozen times, which is a lot for me. I watch very few movies more than once. Are there any that you guys like?

The movie showed men doing manly stuff while displaying honor and good character. Of course it was going to flop.

I have the film in my library and watch it occasionally. Very good story, very well crafted piece.

That's the story with a lot of movies listed here.
Arfcom favorite Big Trouble in Little China had a $25million budget but only pulled in $11mill in the box office.

I clicked on this thread thinking about the 13th Warrior.  Me and my gun team used to watch that movie like twice a month back in the day.  I still watch it every once in a while, love it.

ETA: Also Titan AE is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Eaters of the Dead was not focused enough, like most Michael Crichton books.  The movie is better.

This.  It seemed like the people running the marketing didn’t understand it, so they marketed it as something it wasn’t.  If it had had the marketing of Valerian, it might have been a hit.
