Gun, scope and a case of ammo will get you close to half of that $4k, and that’s not even going high end. That’s just a RPR and a mid range optic.

If you count saving as spending then yes.  $2000 a month right now is either going to college savings for my kids, or a retirement account for my wife or myself.

My wife has a $500 a month car note.

I pay an extra $500 a month on my mortgage (I assume it's ok to include extra money on the mortgage for this, I'm not counting the required monthly amount on my mortgage).

$300 a month goes to charity.

Then my food / baby supplies bill is pretty expensive right now, well over $700 a month.

And of course utilities too...

So there's more than $4000 a month right there.

No mortgage, no vehicle loan, no credit card debt.
Retired and essential expenses run on average of $1650 a month and it includes ALL expenses that make up essentials including insurance on two vehicles and house as well as property taxes and internet and cable.
Hell I even budget $60 a month for Christmas spending.
Discretionary expenses( play money) runs from $300 a month to as much as a $1000 a month.
Life is good.

I phrased it that way because that money leaves my checking account each month and goes into an IRA or ESA, so that money is no longer accessible to me.  Budgeting wise, it's an expense that I have to budget around, like a bill.

We do not have any mortgages, car loans, or debt.
We spend $18K per year on property taxes before we spend a dime on ourselves.
So $4K - $1.5K = $2.5K per month on ourselves.

You can make funny faces.... but to people who budget, saving IS spending.  It is treated no differently.

Everything is a line item in the budget, and "pay yourself first" is a mentality that these things get "paid" first, before anything else.

Sure, if push comes to shove, they don't repossess your car when you skip "car fund" payments to yourself.....  but for many people, saving for retirement, college, and personal savings are the biggest line items in a monthly budget.

One thing I didn’t realize. I’ve got a pretty nice house. The expenses of keeping a big house with extensive landscaping in fancy neighborhood I underestimated. Landscaping isn’t fucking cheap and there’s no way I could handle all that maintenance work myself. Many, many thousands of dollars a year on landscaping, treatment, mowing, tree trimming, etc.

Not including mortgage probably not. Could pay bills with just my salary. But wife works as a 20 year RN. So it helps not worrying about eating out. Maybe by the end of this year we will see light at the end of the tunnel. I lost everything in a family business after the crash of building RE in 08/09. Been rebuilding since.

No, not most months as I am cheap.  During vacation months it can be well over $10 per month.
Ok so now that I think about it, On average, probably yes. Probably only spend around $1500-$2000 on a normal month.

Everything except mortgage we spend like $6k easy.
Yes... we're on the Dave Ramsey plan, we spend way too friggin' much.
So like $3k of that is credit and car debt we should knock out in the next 18 months.

Bills are about 400 a month excluding mortgage.  I give myself 300 a week for food, gas, and whatever else.  So 1600 a month.  Have about 3k extra per month.  I usually put extra on the house, into savings or investments or on random stuff I want

If you want my income and expenses, I bring home 4200 a month, after taxes, insurance, and paying 12% of my income into a pension.  My wife brings home 3100 a month.  Mortgage is $800 a month, electricity is about $125, phone for me and my wife is $90, internet is $60, water is $50, car insurance is $200.  Paying for diapers and baby formula sure is expensive too...

Pretty much only buying steel cased ammo these days, and even that, I've cut back on...

If you were to just count the monthly recurring expenses, no.

But there are regular irregular expenses like re-roof, re-carpet, paint, property taxes, car tires, furniture, computer, phone, college, etc that it moves to yes.
