Jeez.. this is not difficult. If you are in the lane traffic is merging into you are obligated to let the merging traffic in Which means if you notice they are going to run out of room because you are keeping pace with them. Then you back off and let them in or move the fuck over. You give way.
If the merging vehicle is even or behind you. You continue as you were. They should have adjusted their speed to an opening in the traffic as they entered the highway....and if traffic was heavy they would be ahead of the car behind the car in the lane being merged into. Therefore the next car is obligated to let them in. The merging cars may not actually have "Right of way" however. You ARE obligated to get out of the way. The merge lane is ending. Those cars have no where to go. Get the fuck out of the way when you clearly can. Merge lane: were assholes collide ! |

Existing traffic has right of way. Basic rule # 1.
When traffic intersects, right of way is defined to allow the least confusion, and even still signs and lights are installed to make it obvious. In this case, if that lane is ending, traffic in that lane needs to figure out where to go without interfering (or interfering the least) in existing traffic. Oh, that driver's lane ends? It's that driver's burden. If they can't figure it out, they don't get to continue traveling... because the lane ends. If traffic is packed, it's a miniature intersection... without traffic controls: logic says it's basically treated like a 4 way stop or 4 way flashing red... and in practice that looks like zippering it in. This is driving 101. Assholes ignore all that shit. |
