It's hot fucking garbage.

It's literally a re-cut failed TV pilot.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but IMDB says this is the first movie in a planned trilogy.

But will there be a pug in this Dune movie?

I can't find a screenshot, but I remember a shot of just the pug running off as the Saudukar attack.

I'm curious whether they are spanning the book Dune across three movies, or whether the later movies will be Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

Dune is kinda like The Matrix; it's best to stop with the first one and not get bogged down in the later books, because they detract from the story instead of adding to it.

I agree with the Matrix comment. I was doing some more research and some folks are saying this will be a two part movie with a spin off tv show about the sisterhood. If it’s two movies, I would guess just Dune but who knows.

From Wikipedia:

“To Tame a Land" was meant to be entitled "Dune" after the novel, but after seeking permission from Frank Herbert's agents, the band received a message which stated, "Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially bands like Iron Maiden" and were forced to change the name.”

Short sighted idiot. Does he have any idea the number of people that have read a large number of books due to Iron Maiden?

Should have taken it as a compliment and free advertising.

Dumb, but understandable from a GI/Silent Generation writer who wasn't truly appreciated until late boomers and Gen X got exposed to him.

Meanwhile, "Stranger In A Strange Land" isn't about the novel that shares that name.

Nice, though I am not sure about the Floyd music being used in it.

It's an easter egg.

Alejandro Jodorowsky tried to make Dune in 1974. He had quite a pre-production budget for some reason, and he had secured the services of Pink Floyd to work on the soundtrack.

Why does Hollywood insist on sticking to a now very tired and worn out formula for trailers?  Deep BOOM sounds to create a sense of dread, with an older pop/rock song, redone in a super slowed down dramatic fashion?

I love Dune 1984 (we are watching it now with our 14 year old), so I'm not so sure about this one yet.  So much CGI, the worms look fake as crap.  Maybe it's just the way the trailer is done.  I loved Bladerunner 2049 so I have hope.

Loved it,  it's great sci fi.   Book purists are ALWAYS going to be upset.

....  huh?

It's like... prototypical Heinlein.  And does exactly what he sets out to do.

The conversations with Jubal Harshaw ARE the point of the book.

Turns out that Hans Zimmer also did the Eclipse arrangement used in the trailer.

Said it was the completion of one of his childhood dreams.

Neat.

Off topic, but I agree with you. Heinline IMO is one of the most overrated sci-fi authors of all time.

It seems the spice won’t flow until next year, as Warner Bros. and Legendary are moving Denis Villeneueve‘s Dune off its December release date and will unveil the epic sci-fi movie on Oct. 1, 2021, Collider has exclusively learned.
