"And the word that comes to my mind?and I don’t care who doesn’t like me using it?is plantation,” Mr. Wilbon said on Monday’s show. “The players are here to serve me, and they will do what I want. No matter how much I pay them, they are not equal to me. That’s what this says to me and mine.”

I guess every business owner is a slave trader then..
No kidding. My employer demands far more of me in terms of personal conduct than is apparently asked of anyone in the NFL. I can also be fired for doing anything (especially in uniform) that brings negative publicity to the company. Guess I'm pretty much a slave, too.

It will end with teams looking more like the classic rosters of yesteryears. Then the NFL will be really racist.

Damn.  I heard their ratings were tanking.  I guess maybe the management is sort of clueless, too.

Statements like this are truley deeming to those who actually suffered true brutal slavery: Blacks, Irish, Chinese, Koreans, Eastern Europe, Indians, Jews, Goths, Germans, Poles, all Slavic nations, most of Africa....wait, everyone, every culture, every race, suffered from slavery at some point....hmmm.

...but the point is, to compare million dollar ball players 'slaves' when they arrive in a limo full of hookers and coke does demean the treatment of some of the real US slaves in the past - blacks, Irish and Chinese.

Guy who said this is either public schooled, racist or dumb.

OK, if these iceholes keep this up, then why not give them what they're asking for (apparently what these jackarses want). Give them their fantasy land in reality. Take away these football player's multi-million $ contracts and make them play for free. After all a slave doesn't get a salary. The players play only for food and clothing. The slave owners (Team owners) can buy and sell them (draft) at will. When they've outlived their ability to play, they get freed (retired, but without any retirement pension).

When all these iceholes make such stupid comments, the true plight of real African slaves captured by their rival/enemy tribes and sold to slave traders who transported them to various parts of the globe including the Americas starts to become less real, less sympathetic, and more and more of a cliché that makes me want to regret ever feeling sorry for these slaves (the real ones, not these narcissistic iceholes) and regret ever thinking that the North was the right side in the Civil War. I feel the same way when icehole liberals called us Nazis for arresting illegal or out of status aliens. What would these iceholes be saying if Germany had won WWII and the "real" Nazis controlled the U.S. and all other nations on the face of the globe.

Somehow I don't think a true Nazi regime in power in the US would simply arrest illegal aliens or alien status violators, provide them with their rights, give them a Deportation Hearing before an Immigration Judge who has a 50/50% chance of granting them the privilege of remaining in the US after it's over or to file appeals that could conceivably go to the Supreme Court. I'd imagine that instead of any Deportation Hearings or notices of their rights, they would just disappear and their relatives that come to the local ICE office looking for them would have no hope of ever finding that relative. Not to mention the transport trains transporting the majority of commies (democrats/Hollywood elites/unfunny TV comedians/antifa/Occupy This & That/BLM/Nation of Islam/CAIR) residing on the east and west coasts states to real concentration camps.

Humorous anecdotal story. We once had this African status violator from Kenya who was making one of his free phone calls. He was very nervous and pleading with someone on the phone to come down to the I&NS office (years before it became ICE). He said (speaking in his thick Kenyan accent) "You have to come down here today to post my bond and get me out. Otherwise they're going to send me to a 'Concentration Camp'!"   That made my day.

If they are so oppressed perhaps they should liberate themselves of these onerous paychecks.

Meanwhile, back in the real Modern Day Slave Camp (IE mine and most ARFCOMMERs daily life) we don't get to make political statements on company time, or even on our private facebooks, without fear of termination.

I wish I were so enslaved as these crybully thugs, who are not only paid handsomely for playing a game children do for free, but are only out of prison because of their skill at said game.

ETA:

I forgot the pleasure at which we are taxed at 35% without the ability to afford expensive accountants to defer and write off most of our meager salaries unlike the NFL player.

That's nice, Wilbon.  Here's where your retarded analogy falls apart.  A slave had no choice.  They couldn't walk off the plantation and say "fuck you, i quite."  The cry baby NFL players can do that any time they want.  It's just a job.  Find one somewhere else.

No, the issue is they want to have their cake and eat it to.  They want to be able to act like inner city jackasses with no accountability while making millions of dollars each year.   When the owner steps in and says i expect a certain level of decorum, then it's "you are treating me like a slave!!"

No, they aren't.  They're treating you like any other employer would and employee.  You're just used to getting whatever you want on the gravy train.  The train has ended.  You either get on board the new train, or you find another place to work.

Working for a cable network myself I'd just like to say ESPN and or NFL channels have the per highest subscriber cost of any channel. In other words it's the biggest chunk of your cable TV bill whether you watch it or not. We have to pay them either way per total cable customers. Wait until our coop contract comes due and see how much more they'll squeeze from us like AMC did with Walking Dead. The NFL and ESPN is pure greed...
