I looked long and hard at an EOtech when I got my first AR a couple years ago but it didn't look right when I looked through it(astigmatism). I ended up going with an aimpoint PRO and later upgraded to a compm4s. Glad hindsite doesn't have to be 20/20 this time as it often does for me. I was real close to just dealing with the starburst because I was listening to a bunch of people sing the praises of eotechs at the lgs

Ive had an eotech 552 since 2005 that has functioned just fine. The issues presented here are clearly disturbing. But i wont be sending mine back as its the only RDS i own. What i want to know is this; if Holosun can put the exact same reticle into a t1 size optic as an LED with a 3 year battery life, why in the hell could a company like eotech not figure it out if not for sheer negligence or incompetence?

I have one from 2007 and while shooting it turns off and have noticed a POI problem on winter days.

I just got my RMA approved in about 2 hours

When did you submit yours if you don't mind me asking?

about noon eastern. today

Time flies, I guess it took about 4 hours

Same here, I submitted mine last night around 9:30pm, the only thing I received was email subscription notice. Mine is for a 553, what model is yours for?

Well, did two RMAs online for my delaminated sights.  I'll post back any responses and timeline events so others have more info in case they decide to RMA.

Now just have to start researching what to buy for replacements.  Looks like the consensus is Aimpoint if I want a no-BS it's just gonna work for a long time sight.  If I go that route, I'll be sending some money Larue's way.  I have one of their M68 mounts for my TriPower and love it.  Always returns to zero close enough for 6" steel at 300.

Replying to my own post so people can follow it easily.

I submitted RMAs for my two sights that show delamination.  Like Mach, positive response in about 3-4 hours.

I purchased both at the same time in 2009, a 512 and a 553.  I was honest on the pricing - could have gouged them but not going to.

Here is the text of the response:

Hello opnblstr,

Your refund request has been received and approved. Please print and enclose this email with your optic and return it to: EOTech Refunds, 1201 E Ellsworth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI  48108.  EOTech will refund the purchase price plus $15 shipping cost as soon as possible.

My 552 non-NV was a gift a few years ago. I submitted mine and stated I didnt know what was paid. I gave them the current MSRP but also advised them it was on sale. Id be happy with the sale price honestly. This was on a patrol rifle and it scare me to have the thing on any weapon now. We will see how they respond to me.

Thanks Jeff. This put me over the edge. I prefer the EoTech reticle over any single dot. Love it. But I just turned in a RMA for refund. So we'll see.

If approved Im gonna get a PRO at worst or H1 at best. But thanks for the heads up.

Sucks.

Hmm.

Not sure if I should return mine or not. I have a 552 (night vision capable) model that takes the AA batteries.

On the one hand, it hasn't given me any trouble. On the other hand, I could take advantage of the refund and get something more compact.

I asked for a lifetime warranty and got some bullshit answer, so now that I can't find my receipt, and bought it new in 2010, I don't know what I paid for it, how are they going to work that one out? I have zero clue, I know I paid more than I wanted, but I bought it because the reticle is fast for 3 gun. What's the average price paid?

Wow. And they only paid 26mil for that kind of behavior? They got off easy.

Will be sending mine in if practical. It seemed to have some zero issues back when I was using it, but I ascribed that to poor shooting ability instead of an inherent defect. Maybe it was both.

this is good news, now I can get rid of my P.O.S. 511 that burns through batteries at an amazing rate and has seen warranty service twice!  CS refused to replace or refund as they stated these sights simply go through batteries quickly and you should just store it without the batt's in.

I would bro. I never had any issues with that one. I would just reconfirm zero every 3 months or so (roughly when the seasons/temperatures change) and call her good. Since you're using it for CQB, it's not as big of a deal as if you were trying to take out Terry's at 800m.

Damn I don't see how they are going to stay in business giving out all these refunds.  I also doubt anyone is going to plunk down big bucks if they design and release a fixed version.

Best I could see is selling their patents for the general form/shape/reticle design to another company and then shutting down the eotech division entirely.

Delamination usually results in the reticle dimming as you move your head around and the reticle reaches the outer edges of the viewing window.  Sometimes it does it in only one direction, both of mine that suffered from it dimmed in every direction.

Google "NSWC Crane" and that'll give you your answer.  I'm not familiar enough with them, but I know they at least in part deal with small arms technology for SOF.

"HWS" is Eotech's terminology for their Eotech sights, Holographic Weapons Sight.

Kind of have to agree with this...All this panic kind of had me freaking out about my XPS2-0 (still am a bit). Went back and looked through threads from 2010-2014 to see if i missed something when searching for the best optic for my particular needs and saw a lot of love for EO and how aimpoint and EOs were "personal preference ". I do not agree with how they conducted business and bad business practice is sometimes alone a good enough reason to jump ship. However I dont agree that EOs are now NCstars or whatever other $30.00 optic you want to compare it to.  I have nothing against  other optic manufacturers just prefer the lense and reticle of the EO. Kinda sucks a company would do this and bums me out as a consumer. Im going to keep an eye on the thread, im 50/50 on turning mine in. Problem is there isn't much else on the front I like...

Since that doc was released...

All my Eotechs have failed...

Suddenly ---after all these years of great performance...

I'm skeered...

Mostly turning mine in because I want something new. If they actually fix the zero/nitrogen/etc issues, the next gen EOTechs should be damn fine products. Who knows, maybe they'll even improve battery life.

Damn I don't see how they are going to stay in business giving out all these refunds.  I also doubt anyone is going to plunk down big bucks if they design and release a fixed version.

Best I could see is selling their patents for the general form/shape/reticle design to another company and then shutting down the eotech division entirely.

IIRC, one or more patents will be due for expiration shortly. Wonder if they'll sell them or just keep maintaining the devalued IP now.

I'm late to this, but is there a site that shows what the delamination looks like?

Or where you can run the serial number?

I've got a 552 that's probably 8 years old.
