I had them cancel me for a gutter that came loose. I ran up to HD, bought some gutter screws, hung it back up and sent them a picture of the repair from my phone. Took less than an hour including the calls, repair, and email. You can just take photos and show everything is as it should be, but this sounds like you are taking it personally.

Funny part of my cancellation was that there was work they paid for that I hadn't had done yet. My car rolled into my two door garage with a divider between the doors taking it all out. I wanted to go to a single door but they said I would have to repay them if I deviated from the previous set up. After the cancellation they closed out the claim, so I was able to fix the door the way I wanted.

I’ve got some buddies from a town in Eastern AR that got nailed by a tornado last spring.

They’re telling me that State Farm has been very slow to pay, and want to try to cut corners and not total houses which roofs had been completely separated from the rest of the structure.

Of course you could have just called the underwriting dept of the insurance co. (not the agents office), told them the description was for the wrong house and ask could they send someone back to verify that.

I will take pictures and yes Im taking it personally. Its embarrassing and insulting to get told this especially when its a flat out lie. If I didnt give a damn about the way our house looked that would be one thing. But I put in considerable time to make my house show the best in the neighborhood. And trees and landscaping is one thing I dont skimp on.

We have SF have for forty years.  I have had a few claims mostly handled well with the exception of trying to get information when I had an issue with a rental car.  The girl in the agents office just didn't know the right answer.  It all got sorted.

We had the inspector come out a couple years ago and they wanted the moss removed from the roof.  Unlike the OP they gave us I believe more than a year to get it done.  This summer I put a bunch of baking soda let it kill most of it then a month or so later spent half a day cleaning it off.  Now I just put baking soda on the ridge line a couple times a year and that keeps it from growing.

Not sure why they gave the OP such a short time frame.

Down here, you are at the mercy of these companies. Despite no claims, ever, I've been dropped twice in four years.

The first time wasn't a true "drop", but they went up 400% in one year and the agent claimed that they were purposefully forcing their way out of the market.

The second time was a "decreasing exposure" letter. I live in an area that rarely gets storms, not in a flood zone, etc.

I hate it and wish that we could just self insure, because we're at over 8k/yr with insurance being 1/4 of our monthly mortgage/escrow payment.

Back in 2006 at my old house, they said we needed a new roof and had 2 months to do it?  I asked if they were walking around on my property and went up on the roof, no they said.  Zero claims ok we dropped them.  Also dropped wifes business and her partners factory, which was 15k a year.  between cars, houses, businesses they lost 25k from us.  Sold house 10 years ago, still the same roof on it.  I did get my 6 month auto yesterday and both vehicles went up over a $100 each.  No claims. wolverine insurance company.

Insurance is a statistics game.  If you're on a winning streak at the casino you know statistically the house will win.  You know at any round going forward the chance of you losing increases exponentially.  At some point when you are money ahead you wisely cash in the chips and stop playing.

Insurance companies do the same thing.

I hit a deer in March, and SF was unbearable from the word go.  They said they don’t send adjusters in the field anymore, and that the truck would be taken to COPART 2.5 hours away. I took pictures to show the damage,  which I estimated to be about $3600. I was buying a house as I just relocated for work so cash was  tight otherwise I wouldn’t have made the claim. So the truck gets sent to COPART where it sat for 2 weeks before an adjuster looked at.  Adjuster says $2400 dollars, hey no big deal, send it 2.5 hours back to the body shop and I’ll be good.  Well I receive a call from the tow driver and he says “ Before I load this truck up at COPART you have no exhaust on your truck, both catalytic converters are gone.  COPART, I find out, had requested the title to my truck before the adjuster looked at it and removed the converters. So I call SF and explain that their vendor stole my catalytic converters.  SF then says sorry that will be another claim and deductible.   I called every day for 3 months until I was made whole without a second claim.  Their was a shitload more headache and other horseshit, but yeah SF is awful.

All told SF paid out over $12,000 for $2400 worth of damage.

We were notified before Christmas they are dropping us after my daughter was in a wreck, at fault, no injuries, and we filled a claim in the roof for hail damage- which they denied.

EVERY house in around is has had roofs replaced from two hail storms we had a year ago. SF said it wasn’t ‘enough’ damage for a replacement.

I hate these thieves.

Same with my FIL.  He told them they can buy a roof, or pay for lawyers to defend their decision. He had three contractors verify the roof needed replacing.
He got a new roof, but was dropped at renewal time.  He was expecting it and had another ready to go.

State Farm
All State
Progressive
Liberty Mutual

To a lesser extent, Farmer's.

The first 4 companies blast commercials everywhere. Progressive, with their gaggle of idiots, is about the worst.
Followed by Liberty Mutual, which is almost as bad.

All State has that 'mayhem' actor, another one that has outlived any humor.

I have State Farm, so far they haven't messed with us. We had a new roof installed two years ago. Both vehicles are relatively recent.
But I've heard the horror stories from others.

State Farm boosted my car insurance 30% after I got into an accident; I was stationary, turning right from a driveway, when a carload of illegals turned in front of a mom van, bounced off of it and bumped my POS van, bending one bumper. I filed no claim, the mom filed no claim, the illegals had no insurance. SF wouldn't even hear my complaint.
State Farm was NOT a good neighbor to me.

Insurance "inspectors" are the lowest form of human trash next to child predators.

I argued and fought with SF many years ago and they refused to cover hail damage that was damn obvious to anyone walking past and looking at the siding.

It was a nasty hail storm that ruined lots of roofs and everyones siding was golf balled.

SF was like, "nope, don't see anything wrong"

A quick call to the local TV station about insurance companies playing fast and loose with their facts was fun. Reporter followed up with a call to my agent and the "inspector" and shit got turned around REAL fucking fast.

Insurance companies do NOT want bad press attached to their names. And agents suffer the pain even worse.

Get a burner phone, call the agent and corp saying you are from an investigative team following up on a tip that their company is not honoring their coverage.

I had exactly the same thing happen with Allstate.  My father had been with them for most of his life, and I "graduated" to a policy with them when I started driving.  I was with them for auto and home for more then 30 years.  One day this guy comes and "inspects".  Same thing, fix all this stuff or you're cancelled.  I went with State Farm and have been with them since..

I'm convinced that some bean counter looks at the home insurance portfolio and says "We're too heavy in this state. Cut 10%".  There isn't a home in America that couldn't be cancelled for some reason, so they do their dance and you're gone.

It is pretty standard around here to require roofs to be replaced after 15 years.  "Lifetime" does not mean shit to the insurer.
What is lifetime: The shingles?  The nails holding the shingles down?  The decking underneath the shingles?  The caulk around and openings?

If the roof comes off in a storm or you have water intrusion, it is SF that is on the hook to fix it.

Insurance companies just looking for a way to increase the rate or bail out of insuring you.  They took a beating b/c of fires/earthquakes (HI), floods and what not as an excuse for rate hike or bailing out.

My cousin's house faces the same thing.  Drone used to photograph the roof and insurance say the roof is bad.  Trouble is in the photo interpreation.  Certainly a roof is bad but it's the neighbor's roof that is bad and not my cousin's roof.

In 1992, State Farm dropped me as a driver because I was a teenager and they took a major hit after hurricane Andrew.  Turns out, they did this to tens of thousands of "high risk" (read that as male teen drivers).  I went with Nationwide and have been with them ever since.  I occasionally get calls from State Farm wanting to give me a policy.  I tell them that when I needed them, they dropped me and that there isn't any offer they could make me to get me back.  Now, Nationwide has my homeowners insurance, vehicle insurance, and not only mine, but they carry the policies of many of my friends and family now.  Fuck State Farm is right.  I will never give them another penny of my business.

Their website says 25 year algae warranty and limited lifetime. Looks like the shingles are covered for 10 years and after that its pro rated for each year you “enjoy” your shingles.

I mean I live in ohio. Its not like we get hurricanes and winds the blow off shingles every year. Not a single shingle is missing or broken. The roof is in excellent shape.

Edit: I understand the roof will not last my lifetime. But less than 15 years is a joke. Unless you get an unlucky hail storm roofs around here last many decades.

Wonder if grandchildren are eligible for USAA? I believe my grandpa(korean war vet) was a member. No idea if my mom is or has been a member.
