That was a fairly common theme in the '70s, especially TV movie sort of deals. I vaguely remember one that was about ants rising up and killing everyone and everything, big massive piles of ants...not giant ants, or mutant ants just...ants. Now I'm sorry I remember that, it was sooooo bad. View Quote |

As far as newer, yet kind of obscure ones go, one of my favorites in Slither with Nathan Fillion, the big bad is this dude (yep it's Michael Rooker):
The Cabin in the Woods had a plethora of cool monsters (and homage to mother monsters) in it too: Top 30 Monsters in Cabin in the Woods. |

Xtro is a petty obscure sci-fi horror movie that has some scary monsters (technicslly, I guess variations of the same monster) in it, especially a sort of backwards-looking humanoid monster that walks on all fours.

The Id monster from Forbidden Planet was creepy as fuck. That sound track really added to the creepfactor.
And the original Blob for some reason scared me as a six year old kid. Steve |

There’s also a horrifying scene in the movie where a woman (impregnated by the alien) gives birth to a fully-grown man. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

There's a 70's movie called Squirm where earthworms rise up and fuck everyone over. Earthworms. Coming out of the water pipes, raining down from the sky, coming out of the ground, earthworms everywhere. Eating people. I always suspected that Tremors was a ripoff of Squirm. View Quote |

The creatures from Humanoids from the Deep were one of my favorite monsters. A lot of good movies here brings back memories.

The monster from the "Dragon's Domain" episode of SPACE:1999 scared the shit out of me as a young kid. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nTIBOYQp8-A/T_2dUf64MRI/AAAAAAAAOb8/SCpE1TbI5lI/s1600/dragon3.jpg So did Michael Meyer from Halloween, especially when he sits up after being stabbed. https://radpocalypse.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/photo-3.jpg Sleestacks were scary when I was five. I was watching some show about Ted Bundy and they were talking about how he starved himself at one of the jails so he could fit through the ceiling vent in his cell.
Days before he escaped, other prisoners were complaining to the guards that Bundy was crawling through the air duct above their cells at night. The thought of that just gives me the creeps. |
