You see all those big law-firm lawyer TV shows, where at the end just before the credits roll they all leave the office and it's like 10pm at night?

Yeah, that's EXACTLY how it is.

Well, all in all, you have to remember that MwC was all about being grumpy complainers.  Al had a decent-looking wife that always wanted to jump his bones, yet he always complained about it.  Things weren't really as bad for him as he made it out to be.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

The three main characters never did anything useful, yet still had a house in Jersey. Additionally their neighbor, who only works 20 hours per week at a child's playland (IIRC), not only has a house, but a pool and a car, and has enough money to pay for alcohol, strip clubs, insurance, and even a laser home security system at one point.

People don't become wealthy by giving their money away.

One thing you have to learn early in life is to not worry about how people can afford the things you can't.  You never know where people get their money.  Lot's of people have family money or trust funds and never mention it. TV shows and movies always show people living way above what their jobs suggest they could afford.  You just have to assume they have a trust fund and move on with it.

I hated the show "Rosanne" - but I always respected that they had the most realistic house I've seen on a sitcom.  The laundry stacked on the stairs is probably how most people live when company isn't coming over.

Roseanne was pretty legit almost to the point of overdoing it. Ever see the episode where the Connors were just scraping by and a minor crisis threatens to put them over the edge? Dan was what a dry waller, motorcycle shop owner, bus mechanic. Roseanne did a bunch of waitressing, plastic factory work or nothing until she opened up a diner.

It's been a while since I saw the series. I just remember thinking it was a little better than Walt's place and didn't have that awful wood paneling. IDK, I've worked around people that net $500k-$10 mil a year and they/their families don't drive 10+ year old vehicles. Just from a utilitarian standpoint, the safety updates alone make it worth it. Doesn't have to be extravagant either. I'm sure a 2008 Camry would be safer than most cars from the 90s.

Not a show... but the one that jumped out at me the most was that peloton commercial with the lady that lives in what looks like a $10m+ house in Cali and her ~30yo husband loafing around late in the morning.

Not really so much a discrepancy between career and lifestyle but of their potential target customers and and the lifestyle circumstances portrayed in the commercial.. I literally said "what the fuck does that guy do for work, and how do I get in to it?!?" the first time I saw it.

I always thought the Brady Bunch kind of made sense. Mike was obviously higher up in the firm, always working on big projects, major contracts across the country, government work, not drafting three bedroom houses and working up additions. They drove sensible cars, the house was nice and big, but each kid din't have their own rooms, Greg had to fix up the attic to get his own. I don't really know how much Alice set them back, but she got room and board so maybe not a whole lot. An older spinster would probably be a bargain in fact.
