You see all those big law-firm lawyer TV shows, where at the end just before the credits roll they all leave the office and it's like 10pm at night?
Yeah, that's EXACTLY how it is. |

Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
The three main characters never did anything useful, yet still had a house in Jersey. Additionally their neighbor, who only works 20 hours per week at a child's playland (IIRC), not only has a house, but a pool and a car, and has enough money to pay for alcohol, strip clubs, insurance, and even a laser home security system at one point. |

Magnum PI. Tommy was private dick who had free run of an oceanside estate and a company car. I know he was kind of security and manservant for the owner but, those are some sharp digs for a man with that job title. View Quote |

Gus Fring
You'd think someone who owned 14 restaurant locations and a big laundry facility would live in a nicer house and not drive a '98 Volvo. Sure he did it for anonymity, but a 10 year old Volvo!? |

Makes perfect sense. He had a nice house though. |

Gilligan's Island Why were the Howell's going on some three hour tour on a crappy little boat which attracts the likes of a college professor and a farm girl? They should have their own mega yacht that they could live on and sail around the world. View Quote One thing you have to learn early in life is to not worry about how people can afford the things you can't. You never know where people get their money. Lot's of people have family money or trust funds and never mention it. TV shows and movies always show people living way above what their jobs suggest they could afford. You just have to assume they have a trust fund and move on with it. I hated the show "Rosanne" - but I always respected that they had the most realistic house I've seen on a sitcom. The laundry stacked on the stairs is probably how most people live when company isn't coming over. |

Roseanne was pretty legit almost to the point of overdoing it. Ever see the episode where the Connors were just scraping by and a minor crisis threatens to put them over the edge? Dan was what a dry waller, motorcycle shop owner, bus mechanic. Roseanne did a bunch of waitressing, plastic factory work or nothing until she opened up a diner.

It's been a while since I saw the series. I just remember thinking it was a little better than Walt's place and didn't have that awful wood paneling. IDK, I've worked around people that net $500k-$10 mil a year and they/their families don't drive 10+ year old vehicles. Just from a utilitarian standpoint, the safety updates alone make it worth it. Doesn't have to be extravagant either. I'm sure a 2008 Camry would be safer than most cars from the 90s.

Probably bought it used and he seems handy enough to do his own maintenance. Plenty of older teens have used cars they've scraped up money to buy. At one point, I think when Peter crashed a helicopter in his backyard, Joe yelled out asking him how he affords these things. View Quote |

I always thought the Brady Bunch kind of made sense. Mike was obviously higher up in the firm, always working on big projects, major contracts across the country, government work, not drafting three bedroom houses and working up additions. They drove sensible cars, the house was nice and big, but each kid din't have their own rooms, Greg had to fix up the attic to get his own. I don't really know how much Alice set them back, but she got room and board so maybe not a whole lot. An older spinster would probably be a bargain in fact. View Quote |
